Meet Sean Russell of SoFlo Vegans in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Russell.

Sean, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After becoming vegan in 2013, I started SoFlo Vegans as a way to connect with other vegans in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County. Our goal is to help make South Florida a global hotspot for veganism. With a dedicated and passionate team of managers and producers, we create videos, podcasts, and events that focus on animal welfare, the environment, health and wellness, and the overall vegan lifestyle. Since launching in May of 2017, we’ve produced and supported well over 100 events for the South Florida community.

Professionally, my background is in media production and marketing. I’ve held multiple positions in education, professional sports, the music industry and even developed a successful podcasting network focused on Japanese animation and comics. These experiences helped with the formation of SoFlo Vegans and influenced our decision to become a marketing agency that exclusively supports businesses, nonprofits and individuals looking to help spread the message of veganism.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge with running SoFlo Vegans is finding a model that works. We’ve tried a number of different strategies and have made some missteps along the way. What helps is being vision focused and not falling into the trap of blaming others, because it’s usually in those missteps that a solution presents itself. I also find that we always circle back to what works.

We’ve been the most successful in our support of large festivals and organizations. Our platform allows us to shine a spotlight on South Florida as a whole, and as we continue to grow, so will all of the other great organizations that are doing amazing things for the vegan movement. So as we continue to figure things out, we will stay focused on our mission and roll with the punches.

Please tell us about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Our company is called SoFlo Vegans. We specialize in providing marketing solutions to businesses and nonprofit organizations. These services include web/mobile app development, video production, graphic design, event promotion, and social media management.

What sets us apart from others is that we focus on supporting businesses that align with our mission. We also produce events, podcasts, videos, articles, and a digital magazine to showcase what’s happening in our growing South Florida vegan community.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would do everything the same. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and appreciate the blessings that come in the form of my current team, partners and experience. I wear my battle scars proudly.
