Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Deering.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to Miami majoring in finance at the University of Miami. However, I soon discovered that I wanted to be an artist, as I became particularly infatuated with painting. It was an extremely cathartic experience for me, which ultimately led me to switch my major to art history and set off towards a career as an artist.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, I would say it has been rather difficult. I didn’t become an artist to be famous or make money, I just wanted to explore the possibilities that art provided. This has, at times, made it difficult to advance in my field, as I care little for what is expected of me.
Please tell us about your artwork.
My art is based on an obsession towards aesthetic meaning. I specialize in deconstructing the image in an attempt to make it meaningless, thus imbuing it with meaning.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started earlier.
