Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel T. Ferrero III.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started back in 2008 after my younger brother passed away in Iraq in November of 2007. We started a small 6 team league on Sunday nights and it just started growing.
Other directors got involved. Other leagues started joining. And in 2011 when Puerto Rico got involved, we decided to change our name to International Slow Pitch Softball from Florida Adult Softball which is how we started.
Now we are in almost 2 dozen states across the US and over 9 countries.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been challenging, to say the least. I’d say the biggest obstacle we have had to overcome is loyalty. Loyalty as far as independent directors and contractors who join for a little while to learn our “secrets” and then think they can do it on their own and they leave ISPS.
No one can do anything successful on their own. It takes a team of dedicated like-minded individuals who are in it for the good of the sport, and not a hidden agenda. And that’s the “secret”.
International Slow Pitch Softball – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What we do is simple. We host competitive and recreational slow pitch softball tournaments and events around the world.
I am most proud of the fact of how it all started from such humble beginnings and has grown so big. All in honor of my brother, a fallen hero.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I really enjoy everything I do. They say if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. And I truly believe that this is not “work”, because I truly enjoy it so much. The individuals I have met along the way and have worked alongside have really made it all worth it. I really enjoy it everyday.
But as far as the proudest moment in my life, was the time I got to put the Infantry Blue Ribbon on my brother after graduating from Infantry boot camp.
