Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Tomasini.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lorena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a Miami native, born and raised. I was born prematurely at five months and it seems ever since I’ve always been in a hurry to accomplish huge goals. Definitely running my own business has been one of them. I studied at Miami Dade College and Florida International University. Hold a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and my major was Finance. My career began in 2006 when I started setting appointments for my mom. Then, one day, I went with her to see what she did and that’s when I decided I also wanted to sell insurance. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and knew that being a doctor, nurse or police officer was never a career path for me. So, I got my license and have been active ever since. Working together with my mom has been an exciting journey that I will always cherish. Running my own business has taught me lots about being responsible and taking things day by day. As well as thinking on my feet. Besides work, I’ve also enjoyed being in different bands at my church or in cover bands that played pop/rock music from the 80s and 90s. When not doing that or talking about insurance, I can be found playing pool, bowling, at the movies or shooting some basketballs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life is easy if you really want it. Some struggles along the way have been uncontrolled such as the economy collapsing. I would say the biggest struggle has been with having the right mindset to run my business the way I want to. Especially, when trying to change it from seeing people face to face, driving everywhere, to then changing it to be digital and convincing myself that yes, we can solve everything via phone and computer. It has been a struggle to not go back into my comfort zone of driving to see clients but it has been well received and just need to continue moving forward and be consistent.
Having goals, being persistent and not letting negative self-talk permeate my thoughts has been really helpful for every new milestone I’ve hit. Obstacles and challenges are part of life, but knowing how to navigate them and not let them sink me is key to any success in life, either personal or professional.
Please tell us about MALM Life and Health Insurance Agency – what should we know?
We are life and health insurance brokers which means that we represent different insurance companies to find the one that provides the best solution for our clients’ needs. We work with families and business owners both in English and Spanish. We’re known for providing complimentary financial protection reviews so that the people working with us can see exactly what needs to be taken care of and then us providing that solution. What sets us apart from others is that we do everything digitally, so our prospect or client can be in the comfort of their home or office while taking care of these important matters. This has been very helpful during the health insurance (“Obamacare”) enrollment season since there are so many people to help and only have a short six weeks to do so. For life insurance, we have a 3D process where we first define what the needs and goals are of our clients, then we discover what the solutions are and then they decide. Even though it’s digital over phone/computer it is very hands-on and we’re only a phone call away.
I love being able to help families prepare for the unexpected by making sure that they’ll be financially ready for whatever life throws at them. It’s all about taking financial responsibility before something happens because people can’t tell what the future will bring but they can prepare for it.

Definitely my mom, Merlin Ana Lepigaasdato, she gave me the tools early on to know how to speak with clients, follow up and provide excellent customer service. She’s also been very supportive of new marketing strategies I’ve tried and always has positive words to say. Other people that deserve credit are business partners that have provided me with referrals that could be from, accountants or property and casualty agents. And of course, the existing clients that are always referring me to their friend or family members.
