Meet Lillian Khanna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillian Khanna.

Hi Lillian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working at 13 years old doing videography for non-profits like the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness and The Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County. Finally, at 17 years old, I licensed L Khanna Productions, LLC and by that time, I served over 30 clients with my videography, marketing, and design services. At 18 years old, I am humbled by the opportunities and interactions that have moved me here. I went to a local public middle school that was audition only but it wasn’t like anything you would expect a public school to provide. Through the communication arts program, I had professional equipment like green screens, a fully equipped TV studio, even their own radio show broadcasted locally. These assets set the foundation for my industry knowledge that gave me the confidence to use my talents for clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road! There have been many, many years of not knowing how much to charge for a service, how to handle particular clients, how to be confident in my work, overall not knowing the worth of my knowledge and of my talent. 6+ years later, I still have moments of doubt but if you feel confident in what you deliver, then you are doing it right. They may not agree with the vision on first attempt, but if you deliver quality nonetheless, then you are doing your job.

Early on I also used to wait for my clients to tell me what they were looking for in the project but now I realize they are not only looking for me to create the content but paint the picture with them. Using prompts and examples of work really help them visualize it and in return, help from just shooting in the dark with the vision. I also think age plays a huge factor. Because of my age, I think it took twice as much to prove myself but locally, I am respected in my field. Owning a business isn’t a destination; it is a journey. I want to let all business owners know that you can’t grow in comfort.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in videography and social media marketing, especially in capturing the “message” or the mission moments for compelling productions and media. I think I am also known for my integrity in the community since I enjoy giving back and advocating. I am more than my business, L Khanna Productions, but many times my personal life and business overlap. The non-profit world has become my most loyal and dire clientele. I have come to realize through volunteering and involvement that these organizations benefit greatly from videography and social media services that help blast out their missions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Owning a business is a huge risk. No matter how deliberate your intentions and actions are, luck always plays a factor in it all. I have been extremely lucky. I was taught by my mom to never turn down an opportunity because you just never know what it might turn into. There have been plenty of times where I accept jobs that I’m not sure I will be able to pull off and yet luck has always brought me through them.
