Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Sandler.
Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a human being with countless experiences that shaped this unbelievable life — with beautiful highs and devastating lows. I’ve overcome immense physical and mental hurdles throughout my life. I was born without an ear and underwent various surgeries. Later, I overcame paralysis at the age of 17. Subsequently, I faced depression head on.
Somehow, I’ve ended up grateful for all of these experiences – the highs and the lows. These, among others, were the catalysts that inspired me to guide others to find their own “aha!” moment through impact coaching. I connect with my clients on a compassionate, deeply personal level because I’ve been there.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been smooth to say the least. But, every new journey has its ups and downs. Looking back at the speed bumps along my journey to becoming an impact coach, I consider them all to be great learning experiences that have brought me to where I am today. One struggle was during my time as a therapist building my own private practice. I loved what I was doing but something wasn’t aligning and I felt stuck in a business model playing by someone else’s rules. I strongly believe in making your own rules, so that’s what I set out to do.
Sacrificing time, money, and ego has probably been the most illuminating struggle. Learning to have faith in oneself and stay focused on something you believe in, particularly with such a novel idea. There have been times when I was not sure if the work I am providing actually benefits others… You wonder if it’s all worth it at the end of the day.
The Impact Retreat – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an Impact Coach and creator of the Impact Retreat. Throughout my life and career, I’ve worked alongside great thought leaders and innovators who made an impact on my life, much of which I try to pass along.
In my private practice, I felt clients were unable to receive all the help they needed, that coming to an office once a week for sixty minutes would never be enough. After experiencing the power of therapy myself, as both a client and professional, I noticed that there was a missing link between therapy and the feeling of being “stuck.” So, I created the Impact Retreat. The Impact Retreat is an immersive wellness experience where I apply my Impact Coaching methods to find balance of mind, body, and spirit for personal and professional transformation. What sets it apart from other forms of therapy and life coaching programs is that it integrates a blended approach of one-on-one impact coaching, mindfulness practices, and luxury services to facilitate personal breakthroughs.
I work with those who feel they’ve become stuck in some facet of life, be it in their career, personal life, at home or as an individual. With the blessing of my clients, I come into their environment to get a firsthand experience into what it’s like to be them — everyday. From there, depending on the individual, I tailor an experience that will change their life in three-to-five days.
Once the Impact Retreat has set in motion the ripple effect to transformation, I work with clients, ongoing, to ensure continued growth and success on a weekly to monthly basis. Mini-retreats and continued impact coaching are great ways to keep the momentum going.
The most important part of what I do and what I am most proud of is that I’m creating a butterfly effect through my practice. Part of the Impact Retreat focuses on how I impact the lives of individuals who will, in turn, impact lives around the world. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The best way for me to answer this is to speak about how humbling my career has been. From working in a hospital setting to private practice to creating The Impact Retreat, each client experience is more humbling than the one before it.
There’s a saying, “you don’t know what you don’t know,” and working with people in this capacity is the epitome of that saying. The less I believe I know, the more I actively listen to each story and can successfully help my clients reach their goals.
Connecting with others in this profound way is something I’m most proud of. For me, people looking for guidance, assistance in bettering their lives, is a meaningful and fulfilling experience. With The Impact Retreat, each person is looking for an impact, and as we go through the experience, we learn together.
