Meet Jose Graterol Business Manager of Jose Graterol Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Graterol.

Jose, please share your story with us.
I attended college to study architecture, interior design, lighting, garden design and fashion design in Florence, Italy. In 1994, I moved from Caracas, Venezuela, where I was working in the fashion-beauty pageant industry to Miami Beach. I landed a job at Flowers & Flowers on Lincoln Road, where my career as a floral and event artist swiftly blossomed. From there, I honed my craft and skills and eventually, I opened my own custom event and floral design company in 2005. I decided not to have an open flower shop, but a true design and personalized event studio.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to success is not as easy as it seems. I have won 4 national, juried awards for best floral and event designer in the USA, but I still have to compete for nearly every client. In the early years of my business, when social media was just invented, very well respected event companies took credit for my work. I was designing parties for First Ladies, charity galas in Palm Beach, and events in other states. Then, with the plethora of internet websites, people have tried to copy my designs. But, what I know for sure is that no one can copy my passion or the work exactly by my hands! More importantly, no one can possibly know what is in my head for the future designs! When you are a truly creative, the ideas are endless!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company produces custom, high quality, luxury floral and event designs. We produce weddings, galas, birthday or any day parties and Mitzvahs… only happy events! My attention to detail, accessories and the level of personalization in our events exceeds nearly every other company in the industry. I am a perfectionist with “eagle eyes.” My entire team delivers that level of excellence to our clients. My company, Jose Graterol Designs, was just recognized as 1 of the top 30 floral, event and decor companies in the USA by PartySlate, an online platform for events.

I am known as a true “Floral Artist” and custom events designer. I infuse the personality of each client into the event. I never repeat events or weddings and often create custom vessels, dance floors, and arrangements. I am humble, honest and approachable, too!

I am proud that we can help the communities in which we work. I designed and produced the 2017 Heart Ball in Phoenix and hired local high school students who run a flower shop inside their school! It was tremendously gratifying to teach and show them how I work. My business manager visited their school the following month to teach and share our company’s path with the class.

What were you like growing up?
In my youth, as today, I was always dreaming, making things, creating something from materials at hand. I loved shopping and also being one with nature. I was a loner, enjoying time with myself to fantasize about greatness and inventing new things. I was interested in fashion design, clothing, dresses, makeup, hair. In college, I designed windows for Fiorucci and other hip designers in Florence, Italy. After college, I was working to design outfits for contestants in the beauty pageants and had my own line of children’s clothing in Venezuela. It became a great basis to segue into the floral and events industry with all of my past knowledge, studies, and interests combined to make this wonderful career.
