Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeania Pierre.
Jeania, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey started with my dance club students. I teach at school with students from low-income and minority-based households. These groups of students are offered STEM – science, technology, engineering and math fields. After witnessing a lack of afterschool enrichment . I made it my top professional priority to establish a committee, including a dance club, to work with economically deprived children. I spent most of my afternoons volunteering without pay. Dealing with most minority children, specifically Hispanics and little Black girls, I started noticing them battling body image and insecurities. I immediately worked on different strategies to help my students build their confidence.
What really fueled my ambition to start my cosmetic business was when a young girl made a comment about women of color not being able to wear different shades of lipsticks. I made a deal to wear any color lipstick she requested and for her to tell me she’s beautiful every time she passed by. Emboldened by our tacit agreement and daily affirmations, I proudly wore bright-colored lipstick every day. I was committed to doing what I had to do to help her see how beautiful she was in her very own skin. Little did I know while helping her build her confidence, my very own self-esteem was growing. From there, I told myself that I would build my own natural lip wear collection and make strides to become inclusive and cater to women of all skin tones.
The fear of starting my business put me on hold. One day while engaging in a conversation with a woman entrepreneur, she encouraged me to step out on faith and just start small. She said, “It’s better to start your very own brand than living with regrets.” During December of 2019, I took money out my savings and got a second job. Starting my very own brand is extremely rewarding.
Niajaye Cosmetics lip wear collection provides high-quality, long-lasting, and smooth matte lipsticks. My lip wear is also Paraben/Gluten/Vegan Free and EU compliant and very affordable. Niajaye Lip wear speaks for you! One thing I’ve learned through the whole process is that we are the brand. The majority of the time, people buy what they see others wearing. Now, when I’m out and about getting compliments, I can tell individuals that I’m wearing my very own lip wear and brand for myself.
Has it been a smooth road?
I must say that it started off rough, but that didn’t stop me. I started making great sales and promoting myself at different events or in person. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new challenges presented itself, but it gave me time to think of different marketing strategies and further cement the need of new sale tactics. I been encouraged and have been successfully collaborating and networking with small business owners.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Niajaye Cosmetics story. Tell us more about the business.
Niajaye Cosmetics was developed with one goal in mind: providing a high-quality, long-lasting, and smooth matte lipstick in an online store. My passion for excellence has driven me from the beginning and continues to drive me into the future. I know that every product counts and I strive to make the entire experience as rewarding as possible. What makes Niajaye Cosmetics lip wearer stand out from other cosmetics is that I dedicated my time to do research and study. I wanted to ensure that my product was environmentally friendly. Niajaye Cosmetics also has a 24-hour wear LL Lip Creame.
