Meet JC “Fentz” Louis of Fenatiq Distribution in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to JC “Fentz” Louis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my production company right out of High School along with four other business partners known collectively as ” The Committee”. We were fortunate enough to produce with a lot of great artists in the game such as Trick Daddy, Ludacris, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Eightball & MJG, Diddy, ect… In 2001, we turned the production success into a full-fledge label and brought out our first recording artist with a group called “Iconz” showcasing our first national hit record entitled “Get Cruncked Up” along with all the top up and coming Miami artists of the time. As the hype of Iconz began to slow down, I signed a few more artists to the label Toro who unfortunately is no longer with us, Ballgreezy who’s now blazing his own trail with a few hit records that’s burning the airwaves and Suthun boy who’s best known as Koke from the movie Bloodline that I wrote and produced along with my partners again tried my best to showcase a lot of the up and coming talented individuals of the Magic City.

As the music industry continued to tank with all the piracy and peer file sharing it got really difficult to promote and market artists, so along with two different partners, got together and opened a state of the art recording and film studio called Midtown Studios & Films in the Heart of Little Haiti. Unfortunately, that venture was short-lived as the building was sold and I had to move my operation to Audiovision in North Miami and the Legendary Producers The Albert brothers and record executive Steve Alaimo welcomed me with open arms thanks to Johnny Mars of On Mars management. Ive recently purchase Audiovision Studios along with  Johnny Mars and Sean Ostrov in an attempt to continue the legacy set by those iconic producers. Today along  with my business partner and Greek Investor Chris Pappas, We’ve started a new venture called Fenatiq, It’s a distribution, Music & Films company funneled through the Orchard/Sony and it was created to give every single artist an alternative to Distrokid, Tunecore and the Cd Baby’s alike and to have a longer reach and more power over there music, It was built by Artist for Artists. Looking forward to see how big this can grow for the next 5-30 years.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth anything is ever a smooth road. Lots of obstacles dealing with different personalities as a Ceo of a company who have to keep your staff and artist motivated to give their best at all times, Not to mention, the music industry is a people industry. You have to make sure the dj’s like your record and before you can get to that, it’s a process to get them to even listen to it. Not to mention after crossing that hurdle, you have to pray the fans take a liking to it cause they’re your judge and jury at the end of the day. Spent may sleepless nights in countless clubs trying to get a record played just once, Back in the days, we also had to pass out flyers, put up posters press cd’s and vinyls, it was really rough. With the advance of social media, things have gotten much easier.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Well at the moment, I’m currently operating two separate businesses. Recording Alliance is a service company that connects artists to studios worldwide. Imagine you’re an artist just landed in LA, NY, or Greece, looking for a studio to record a record, we link you up with the preferred studio in that city where we take care of everything your time scheduled, preferred engineer and payment for your session. Think of us as the Air BNB of recording studios. As of right now, we represent Audiovision of course as our home base in North Miami, FL. Other business that I operate of course as stated before is Fenatiq, the distribution company and what sets us apart is the partnership with The Orchard/ Sony which the entry is very difficult for an independent artist and must importantly we focus more on sync licensing to get the artists we distribute songs into movies, TV shows and commercials to help maximize visibility and potential. We just licensed one of our our biggest record “Get Crunked up” by Iconz to QC for their artist Lekeyah feat. Lotto entitled mind ur business. That same record fir the new smash series on HBO MAX called Rap Shit. We also licensed I’m so high remake to Kid Cutty called “Mawi Wawi”. So there’s a lot of good things happening this summer from Fenatiq.
