Meet Jamiel Young of Build My Credit in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamiel Young.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamiel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I was always picked on for my “big head”, my intelligence and wearing glasses. I heard things like nerd, geek, and brainiac as well as gained the nicknames Jimmy Neutron, WayneHead, and Dexter. It really made growing up seem difficult and I even went as far as contemplating suicide. After silly attempts, I quickly learned that was not the route I wanted to go so I continued on my path of gaining knowledge and embracing the nerd everyone made me out to be. After high school, I became the youngest manager at CVS and my future seemed bright but then I got involved with the wrong crowd and made some poor choices. My life quickly spiraled in a downward state as I made choices to get involved in crime and catching felony charges. The Judge and State were both looking for 25 years to life in prison and then I knew I veered off my destination and made a promise to myself if I get out of that situation that I would never return.

After sitting in jail for 432 days fighting my case, I was blessed with a second chance that I did not take for granted. Upon my release as a new felon, I heard all the stories of how hard it is to get a job and continue with life as a felon, but I did not let that discourage me. I found a job within one month of being released and enrolled in school six months later at ITT Technical Institute. I then partnered with a few entrepreneur’s that were into entertainment and party promotions and their things took off. I graduate from ITT with an Associates in Network System Administration which now I work for a marketing company full time making double what I did when I was a manager at CVS. I am also President of the same entertainment group WolfPack Entertainment and I started a new business venture teaching Financial Literacy and helping others repair and build their credit to give them their purchasing power back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, if I made different choices in life, the road could have been a lot smoother but without those experiences, it probably would not have made me the man I am today. I dealt with bullies when I was younger and then, as I got older, I dealt with the justice system. The main struggle that I consider myself having was just confidence in myself, which every day, I strive to build my confidence and motivate myself to be better then I was the day before.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I teach financial literacy. I help those that don’t understand how credit works and encourage those that are thinking of finding another way then what we are taught. In school, we are taught go to school, get a degree and find a good job but that route is not for everybody. For others working for someone is just not ideal and would rather not have a job if it means working for someone. I help those looking for a solution to their problem and I like to consider myself a Professional Problem Solver or PPS for short. What sets me apart from others is that I actually care and I don’t require payment to help someone. I provide value and education so that my clients don’t have to return six months later because they found themselves in the same position. I help get others their purchasing power back. I am proud of myself to not let my obstacles define me.

I am also looking for like-minded business people who are looking to start a business to partner up with and build something massive here in the South Florida region and anywhere else in the other 49 states of America.

Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
My favorite childhood memory had to be watching an anime called Dragon Ball Z. I know that sounds corny but the main character, Goku, taught me never to give up no matter how bad things look. The show helped me build character after seeing everything Goku would have to face and still it did not waiver his will to succeed.
