Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginner.
Hi Ginner, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the age of 14, I was working as a bartender at my dad’s club in the south of Chile in the city of Pucon. The first time I saw the DJ performing and controlling the experience for these masses of people, I knew then that music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
My dad used to own a set of CD players so I decided to start mixing my hip hop records and some Latin records dad had. At 15 years old, I began playing at birthday parties, and school parties, and at the age of 16, I got the opportunity to start performing at clubs in the capital city of Santiago.
My Mom told me that I needed to continue going to school so I had to become responsible to be able to manage the school in the mornings and work-life as a DJ during the night. It was a hard time but thanks to my mom’s support, I was able to go through all of it.
When I started making this career choice for a living, I wanted to look into other cities and countries where I could keep pursuing my dreams and Miami was one of those cities that came first to mind, so I focused on working to make that happen, worked as a sales assistant at a skate shop, as a waiter, as a bartender once again, all this with the purpose of saving money and have the capital to sustain my dream and project.
I went to Miami in 2016 to take a glimpse of what the city felt like, how the music and nightlife scene works and if I could make any connections that could help me open doors in Miami.
After that, I went back to Chile and began learning music production at a music school, learning from a renowned music producer and artist who played in many countries recognizing my work and my projection ahead, which motivated me to release my music and share it with the world.
Nowadays, I’m in Miami performing at different clubs and am currently in the process of recording new music for the upcoming releases this year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that if you want great things for yourself, you need to learn by going through difficult experiences and testing yourself. In 2021, I moved to Tulum, I was working at a Hostel as a receptionist so I can live somewhere calm and at the same time have the chance of playing at clubs and working on my music.
It was a hard time of my life because I was sharing a room with 6 other men and I only had 2 meals per day which were provided by the Hostel, the money I earned, I used for moving around and trying to reach venues and promoters, which was not cheap. That was a very hard time for me because nobody wanted to listen to my work and Tulum was full of DJs from different countries, so everyone had something different to offer, which made this kind of a “race” something very difficult.
One night I got my phone and my wallet is stolen, so I was figuring out how can I leave that place and move somewhere fast, where I can still pursue my dream and live in peace, there is when I decided to move to Miami, I knew it was the right time. I sold my DJ controller, got my flight ticket, and left Tulum.
Fortunately, I have my brother and my sister living in Miami, so I was never going to be alone, they support me a lot in all of my projects, so at that moment, I started to see things brighter. I started working as a waiter in a restaurant, I established myself very fast and got my life back together again, the only issue was that I was working full time and had no time at all to work on my music, so I knew needed to solve that fast.
I met some promoters who gave me the chance to play at a small venue in South Beach, the show was great so after that, I was working as a waiter during the day, and DJed by night, just like I was doing back in high school. When I noticed I was doing enough money to live okay, I quit my job at the restaurant and now I’m full-time DJing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ/Producer, I specialize in Dance Music, more specifically in Tech House/House Music. Work begins at the studio, always, from the creation of music to the preparation of the sets I perform at shows.
I’m known for having a groovy sound that makes you want to dance, bringing life to the party, not being afraid of making a fool of myself as long as the crowd loves the music and experience I deliver, and being all the time working on something new for my audience.
I’m very proud of all the journeys I have been through, it has been a very difficult road, but at the same time I would do it over and over again, I always say to enjoy the ride, because the objective as far as it looks, it always comes, it is just a matter of time.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the activity Miami has, it just never stops.
The Latin vibe it has makes you feel always welcome and in a comfortable environment. It is a city that has people visiting all the time, so more than one time you will have a close friend visiting and you can catch up with them.
What I least like is that Miami is a place where you can succeed very quickly, or fall into the deep end very quickly too, so I think you need a very strong mentality to stay on your track and work hard for what you wish for.
