Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Gomez.
Elisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been making jewelry in some form since I was a child. I started out when I was about six stringing beads on elastic, and I would sell them out of my grandmother’s clothing store in Puerto Rico when I would stay with her for the summer breaks.
I spent my entire 20’s working as a nail tech in salons and selling my jewelry there on the side. Once I started wishing I was making jewelry full time instead of doing nails, I moved to Miami from Riverview (Tampa Bay Area) to pursue my passion. I have been self-employed through my jewelry line for about six years now.
My husband, Sean, joined me in the business and he does all our waxing, casting and finishing work. I focus on design, web content, social media, shipping, and customer interaction. The great thing about working with your husband/best friend is that you can both help one another with basically all the work it takes to run a successful online business.
We can anticipate what the other one needs without even having to ask at this point which makes our process go so smoothly. It’s also amazing to be able to bounce ideas off of one another on what will and will not work. We design, cast, manufacture, and ship all from our production studio, so we have no need to outsource.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with any business, we have had our share of mistakes, and we’ve learned some hard lessons along the way. Since our business is online, it’s important to ship out as quickly as our handmade schedule allows us to.
It’s also important to tell your story and allow your customers to be a part of the brand and feel connected to you in their own way. Social media has created some amazing opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in whimsical handmade artisan jewelry. We make art that you can wear to express your individual style. All of our pieces are made using sterling silver and are made by hand one at a time in our studio.
We make all our own pieces from start to finish, we design all our components and use only the finest materials and pay close attention to detail. Our unique look sets our work apart as artists, and we take great pride in being original.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Be original. BE YOU. There is literally no one like you in the entire world, use that to your advantage. Make what YOU love, and the right people will find you. Don’t worry about if others will like it, do YOU like it?
