Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Benedetti.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Caracas Venezuela. When I was little, my Dad who was a lawyer had for hobby Photography. He had a darkroom where he developed all his photographs. Well, I was helping him every weekend. I used to turn in the lights, turn on and off the clock, add the liquids and wait to see what will be there printed on those white papers. So my Dad every time he bought a new camera he bought two, one for me.
So since I was five or less, I was all the time taking photos around my home, neighborhood, etc. I grew around books and books of famous photographers so I started doing courses in Venezuela and when the Digital world appears, I took classes of Digital 1, 2, 3 and I did many photography trips in Venezuela with top photographers. In 2018, my father suddenly died and I moved to Miami to live there. And thats when I decided to take photography seriously as a means of life. I did many many courses in Miami and one day a very good friend of mine told me Elisa please you have so many beautiful photos why don’t you start selling them, and well I did. I have sold many photos, but what I like is that I design the way I mount them. I am a very creative person so I design how to select the frames everything…
In February of 2020, I received a call from a wonderful Venezuelan art curator to see if I wanted to expose my photos in The Palm Beach Art Basel and I say YES. I sell Venezuelan landscapes and I sell portraits, product photography, street photography, sunrise and sunset photography and architecture photography. I have my personal Photo Studio in my home and well, I keep always studying photography and photographers and traveling around And carrying my backpack always with my camera! This is me a Professional Photographer. A mother of three wonderful boys, twins already working and one boy in his third college year. A smart husband engineer. And a Princess Dog Panda!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road yes, because is my Passion. I really enjoy, love to take photos all the time. My passion introduced to me to a wonderful community’ of photographers who are my best friends today. But struggles yes, I wish my Dad can see me because I did what he did not do, I sell I am making my first real photography book I exposed three times. I really missed him is worth it than a struggle.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What makes me different from the rest… my frames the way I mount my photos. Is different unique and very decorative.
I specialized in long exposure photography. Every landscape that I take, I used at least 1 minute to 5 minutes of exposure. That makes me a little different to the rest too.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Well, right now my plan is my first photography book.
Let me explain this.
On February of 2020, I went with a school of photography to Las Azores in Portugal to an excellent workshop there. I first made a short stop in Lisboa and there was a friend from Spain who told me that if I wanted to join her in a short workshop with a Magnum photographer Rui Palha and I said yes, let’s do it. It lasted only 4 hours but that day, that workshop taught me what I really liked about photography so I took my best photos of all or at least my favorite ones. So I decided to make this first book with the photos that I took that day! And I think that they are so wonderful that I sent them all to Rui and he selected few of them so I can make my book.
Thats what I am working in right now.
