Meet David Camargo and Pablo Zepeda of Dade Plant Co. in Dade County

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Camargo and Pablo Zepeda.

David and Pablo go back 13 years by way of Lieren, who is Pablo’s cousin and David’s wife. Lieren and Pablo have a family tradition of visiting Bok Towers every year to celebrate their grandfather’s birthday. It was during these trips, David and Pablo would be inspired by nature and the possibility of sharing these experiences with others. Interestingly, Pablo started practicing the Art of Bonsai at the age of 12. This interest expanded into tropical and exotic plants over the years and would impact David down the line.

During 2014, Lieren asked Pablo to accompany her to acquire David’s first bonsai and it was this gift that slowly changed his life. David would eventually pursue the Art of Bonsai and go on to materialize “KOMOREBI,” Miami’s National Bonsai Exhibition, and the Literati Grove, which is a bonsai art collective. There is a supernatural experience and joy in collecting and taking care of plants as one immerses themselves in the plant world. Living this plant life and being able to share the joy with others is what truly created Dade Plant Co.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The inception of creating a plant shop occurred during 2015, while David was pursuing his Masters in Business. The shop was a small component of the vision, which was to ultimately create a Cultural Center in Miami-Dade. Although David and Pablo floated the ideas and requirements to create the business, fear and uncertainty played a role into setting the business aside. It was after this time, David would pursue his ideas of presenting events, while Pablo was focused on his profession as a purchasing manager and procuring textiles around the world.

Fast forward to 2020 and the COVID Pandemic, uncertainty affected the market as a whole. It was during this low point that David approached Pablo and asked him to sign the articles of incorporation while removing all doubts. Applying all that was learned over the years in both our professional and personal lives proved valuable in creating Dade Plant Co during difficult times.
