Meet Daniel Villasuso of Carved Woodworks in West Kendall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Villasuso.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a fourth-generation woodworker; my great-grandfather started this trade-tradition about 100 years ago. Though I grew up surrounded by woodworkers, I decided to go to school and study business instead. After graduating, I was very successful in my 15 years of sales but something was always missing. At the beginning of 2013, I started practicing woodworking as a hobby and posting it on social media. The response was so overwhelming that I was forced to leave my secure job and go full time into my new passion as a custom furniture builder. It’s an unexplainable feeling when you know you’ve finally found your calling, and I have never been happier. I take extreme pride in my work; and the fact that this trade has been passed on for so many generations, makes it even more special and close to my heart. In fact, my company name is an acronym of my family members that have influenced me along the way.

C – Cubas (Uncle)
A – Armando (Father & paternal grandfather)
R – Rey (Uncle & maternal grandfather)
V – Villasuso (Family name)
E – Evan (Son)
D – Daniel (Self)

I began building furniture in my backyard and in a short amount of years, my business has expanded into a 3000 sq. ft. warehouse, with a team of four hardworking and skilled workers. I am thankful for the workspace and craftsmen that help CARVED meet the demand for our custom furniture.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any business, there are always struggles and difficult times, but luckily for us, our success has hugely outweighed the struggles. We have been blessed with amazing clients that believe in our brand and trust in our quality of work.

Please tell us about Carved Woodworks.
We are custom furniture builders that specialize in solid wood pieces in many different design styles including rustic, modern, industrial and mid-century modern. Our high level of quality, attention to detail and exceptional customer service are what separates us from others. We are known for our unique design style, in our barn doors and dining tables.

We are very proud of our recent furniture invention. We developed an adjustable armrest table as a furniture accessory for sofas. This year we were awarded the patent for our invention. Our adjustable armrest tables are sold in every West Elm in the state of Florida and on our online shop.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up spending a lot of time with my father, watching him renovate many houses, including my childhood home. Some of my best memories came from watching and helping him transform normal houses into beautiful homes. My attention to detail is definitely inspired by his level of craftsmanship. As a kid, I may not have been the happiest working on a Saturday, but looking back, I can’t help but realize how priceless those moments were. He is definitely my biggest inspiration and my fondest childhood memories were shaped around him.
