Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Zack.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Carrie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a child I loved to entertain. I would turn simple meals into decorated works of art and milestone celebrations or a night on the town into an experience. By high school, I was always the one in charge of planning whatever was going on that weekend and all my friends and family would come to me for ideas on what to do for their weekend, day off work or party they were planning. I used to make lunch for my dad every day in a bento box style full of colors, textures and variety. He would get asked all the time where he got it. By the time I was finished high school I was catering parties for his law firm and creating some private events on the side. I eventually went away to college where I studied Interior Design for a year. During that time I had a job as a personal chef after school and on weekends. My love for cooking and entertaining definitely came through and the interior design took a back seat. I enrolled in culinary school and thought I would give that a try. At the time I was the only female in my class and one of the youngest students. I was more interested in experimenting at home and learning for myself and never finished the program. I happened to meet two flight attendants for a private airline one day while waiting in line and from that chance meeting ended up with the great opportunity to cater for their private airline that transported NBA and NHL players. I did a couple of those gigs and went onto opening my own catering business. Over the next few years I catered events for corporate, social and weddings. The more samples I sent to clients, the more they asked me to get involved in planning their events. I eventually went from catering to planning and designing as well. I decided I wanted more education and eventually enrolled in a Visual Communications program. I loved the program, made a lot of wonderful connections and started to build a business on the side. Networking and going to events, I was able to expand my services and had opportunities to work in the entertainment industry, hosting parties for many high profile clients. I eventually expanded my planning services to various destinations and ending up traveling to Miami. I have been living in Miami full time for more than 6 years and now plan events and celebrations all over the world. My love for entertaining and creating experiences for family and friends has grown into a successful business and I am fortunate enough to be able to share my lifelong passion with my clients, their friends and family.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building anything is always a challenge and presents itself with hurdles and obstacles along the way. What road is ever smooth the whole way? I have learned so many things over the years and continue to learn each day. It is so important to talk to peers and other people in the industry. To learn from their experiences as well as my own. To learn from each failure and each success and to always strive to be better. We are always learning everywhere we go and with every experience we have in our lives and I always try and apply that to my business. Through our interactions with other individuals, simple daily routines, shopping, eating, traveling and staying healthy. I have a great group of friends and industry partners. Together we all support one another and are constantly learning new things.
