My journey in becoming a professional photographer started 15 years ago when a close friend explained to me in a general way the use of a camera and how to shoot in manual mode. The interest was so much for the art and beauty of the photography that I decided to study photography at a private school in the city of Miami.
Once I finished my studies I started with marriages, baby sessions, events. etc… which are the styles what most photographers do when they complete their studies, but from the beginning, I knew that these styles of photography did not fit what I felt and wanted for me.
So in 2013, I started my internet business selling pictures of children’s decoration and my abstract art, which was a great blessing because it has grown over time. However, inside of me, I knew that something else was missing and I wanted to show the world the gift that God had given me with photography.
In 2018 and after many hours of study on the behavior of pets, photography techniques and the treatment that should be had with them start my adventure with www.dogexpressions.co (Dog Photography). The beginning was not easy, but with the support of God, my wife, and daughter, everything has grown in this short time.
In my experience to this day, I can say that dealing with pets is not an easy job. I have worked with pets from very shy to the most extroverted temperament. It takes a lot of patience to let them relax and feel comfortable in their new environment besides having techniques when doing the portraits, but with a lot of love and dedication, the results speak for themselves.
In this short period of time, I have been in this business I have met incredible people and discovered that this was what God had given me as a gift to show the world the beauty of pets.
Currently, I am still based home, and I have my office work from Monday to Friday, but my goal is that dogexpression to become my full work. I am very sure that with the wisdom and the gift that God has given me, my dream will come true very soon. In summary, I can say that Dogexpressions has been the best decision I could have made.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Working with pets is a daily challenge since you do not know what you will find at the moment of the photo sessions. Looking back, I remember meeting a pet adopted from a shelter which was afraid of my lighting equipment and camera. So I literally had to hide to take the portrait photographs. Overall it has not been easy the way, but dedication, patience, and love for pets everything is possible.
