Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Roth.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Optometry seems to be a family tradition for me. My late grandfather, Dr. Irwin Roth, was the first Roth eye doctor. He graduated in 1958 and opened up our first location in downtown Miami shortly after.
My father, Dr. David Roth followed in his footsteps, graduated optometry school in 1989, and opened our second location in Miami Beach in 2002.
At age 13 I decided that I wanted to be an optometrist as well and graduated from the same school as my father and grandfather, the Illinois College of Optometry. I joined the practice in 2014 and have been loving every second. I feel lucky to not only continue my family’s legacy but also to serve my community by providing quality eye care services.
Working with my dad has been a lifelong dream and its very cool to be examining patients that have been coming to our office for decades.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, I have had a seamless journey in becoming an optometrist. Ever since I can remember I knew I was going to become an optometrist so for me I just needed to follow the steps to get there. Having the support from my family was definitely a plus.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Eye Desire Eye Care & Optical Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
Our office is a family owned private optometric practice in addition to an optical boutique. We pride ourselves on customer service and making our patients feel like a part of our family. Besides our 3 generations of optometrists, a lot of our staff have been with us for over 15 years so when you come in we know who you are, what you like and what you need! We give all of our patients a customized experience and I believe that is what sets us apart from other “bigger” optometry practices. We do not see 40+ patients a day like some of our competitors so we spend individualized time with all of our patients to ensure they are getting the best quality of care.
Some of our services include:
-Comprehensive eye exams
-Contact lens exams
-Diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases
-Lasik consultations/pre and post-op
-Cataract evaluations/pre and post-ops
-Specialty/custom contact lenses (RGP, scleral)
-Glaucoma diagnosis, management, and treatment
-Dry eye evaluation and treatment
One of our unique specialties is orthokeratology (orthok). This is a form of vision correction without surgery. It is an alternative to Lasik and best of all it prevents your vision/prescription from getting worse. While it works for people of all ages it is especially beneficial for children whose vision gets worse each year. Orthok lenses work similar to a retainer for your teeth. You simply wear your “vision retainer” lenses while you sleep and take them off first thing in the morning. You will see 20/20 all day without the need of daytime glasses or contact lenses.
We are also a full service optical and have our own in-house lab. We have a lot of prescriptions in stock which means you can get your glasses made fast! We offer one year warranty on all new frames as well as unlimited free eye wear adjustments.
We also accept vision and medical insurance.
