Meet Ashley Eubanks of The Beauty Initiative in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Eubanks.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After volunteering to teach beauty to women transitioning from homelessness and high school girls my compassion for helping grew. I wanted to share my passion for beauty that I began a nonprofit, The Beauty Initiative.

My hope was to teach the females in our workshops the true definition of beauty. Yet on the way home after work, I noticed a homeless woman panhandling and when she turned around I noticed her pants was soiled with blood. She was on her menstrual cycle. It posed the question “what do Homeless Women do when they’re monthly cycle comes on?”

After much research from traveling to over 6 facilities in my tri-county area, I learned that this is one of the least given items and most had nothing to offer the women in need. Working as an educator I concluded that some schools in my area were also turning students away, so I had to take action.

For my 30th birthday, I forfeited my plans to travel internationally to ask my family, friends, and social media following to donate tampons and sanitary pads. On my birthday we collected over 15,000 items and prepared over 400 bags of hygiene necessities. I coined this inaugural Initiative simply Help Her, period. That was just the beginning.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say it maybe 50/50. It has been smooth due to my persistence of ensuring no woman will go without these necessary products. I’ve used my own funds and even purchased items when we didn’t have inventory.

The tough times are when I feel we could spread awareness to more to help this issue but it’s hard to get the message out. Yet I’m hopeful that one day, I’ll work so hard that Women going without menstrual hygiene items will no.

Longer be an issue! Then the hard times will be worth it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Beauty Initiative Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart is that we are “The Hygiene Hub”. We want to handle everything hygiene for those in need. Our nonprofit prides itself on promoting and providing hygienic necessities to those in need.

Our events are literally parties with a purpose. We normally have food, music, giveaways and of course packing of the items for our friends who are less fortunate. We aim to have an atmosphere that volunteers are happy to give back. That’s what we’re known for.

I believe I’m most proud of the team that supports this mission. Females and males from all walks of life that believe that everyone is due dignity. Majority of the time I am the front-runner, but they keep the mission thriving. With their support, we’ve managed to collect and donate over 125,000 products. That’s teamwork!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe that what’s your destiny is your destiny. I began The Beauty Initiative after dissolving my private label cosmetic line, Glitz N Glam Cosmetics. My love for Beauty was so deep that I wanted to share it for free with women that need it most. But I ended up being “The Pad Lady” and I feel it was my destiny to have the honor to provide a simple package of hygiene to someone who needs it.
