Meet Angela Wilson of Elite Crew International in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Wilson.

Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town on the Saint John River in New Brunswick, Canada. Working at sea came very naturally to me, so at the age of 19, I moved to South Florida to work in the maritime industry. I spent 5 years working onboard cruise ships as a Purser until I was offered a chance to recruit for some of the most notable cruise lines in the world. I quickly developed a talent for understanding the needs of client’s and the expectations of crewmembers.

In 2002, I was introduced to Karina Roholte Befeld, who is one of the most notable and influential women in yachting and owner of Elite Crew International. By 2003, I was fortunate enough to land a job with her as a Crew Agent. Well, it’s now been over 14 years and I’m happy to say there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. We offer a service unlike any other employment agency. I truly make a significant impact on people’s lives by taking the time to provide the support and guidance that crew need to build a successful career in yachting. It’s unbelievably rewarding to see crew climb the ladder from Deckhand to First Officer and then to Captain. As with any career, it takes hard work and dedication to get you to reach your goals. I’ve devoted my life to this industry and am proud to be considered a specialist in my field.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Leaving home at a young age was the toughest decision. It required a lot of courage, which I don’t know that I have today.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Elite Crew International story. Tell us more about the business.
Elite Crew International is known for our unique approach to recruitment. We have a very loyal following of Captains and yacht owners which appreciate the additional attention and hands-on service that we offer.

Working at Elite Crew International has been a blessing. The road to get here was long and was met with obstacles but with the right people in my life, I’ve made it.
