Meet Alp Franko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alp Franko.

Alp, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my career as a commodity trader in the fine chemical and petrochemical industries and worked my way up to eventually lead our expansion on an international scale. This experience enabled me to create several other businesses in the retail and hospitality sectors, both of which I am very passionate about. After several years of owning and operating restaurants all over the world, I’ve shifted my focus to the virtual restaurant and food-delivery industry. Earlier this year, I launched The Local Culinary, a virtual restaurant concept, which is based on this rising demand for delivery-only restaurants.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a challenging journey. Starting a new business in a new city has proven to be difficult but we are learning to adapt to our market and fulfill its needs, which is our mission at The Local Culinary.

Please tell us about your business.
The Local Culinary offers virtual restaurant brands with modern, chef-driven food delivery options inspired by global cuisine. Dishes are creatively designed specifically for delivery. Customers can choose options from 20 different concepts via food delivery apps and experience top-tier fare from the comfort of their home. I am most proud of providing a new dining experience to Miami residents and offering an innovative alternative to the traditional delivery options. What sets The Local Culinary apart is that we have adopted an approach that emphasizes the experience aspect of the delivery. For example, each concept incorporates a unique element that is representative of the cuisine. Items include personalized stickers, candy, fun toys and party accessories. With bright colors and witty messaging, we have invested in our marketing strategy to deliver an energetic brand that resonates with millennials, a major demographic driving the virtual restaurant trend.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
The Local Culinary will soon be expanding to Coral Gables, Aventura and Boca Raton. We’re excited to spread our brand to new neighborhoods and further our delivery system’s reach.
