Meet Alejandra Kelly of Rock & Bone in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Kelly.

Alejandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It may sound a bit cliché, but I’ve always been drawn to fashion! I studied in Paris for 5 years and I’ve had the pleasure of working for many Luxury brands during my career; I’ve travelled to many places and I’ve been lucky enough to experience many beautiful things. I am fond of all the colors that surround us, the different materials and fabrics, textures and shapes…if I could live on a Runway, I think that’s where you would find me! jaja

I love things that are strange and that standout, things that don’t necessarily match and that ‘make you go hmmm’ (in a good way)… I love being daring and going against the current. I love mixing prints and asymmetrical styles. Things that can make someone turn around and say, ‘WOW’ – that’s powerful!

This is how the brand was born, from pure passion. It definitely took me a while to figure it out and to understand what it was exactly that I wanted to create but once I had the vision I knew that was what I was meant to do.

Today marks about 6 months that I am dedicated to Rock & Bone! Thus far, I’ve attempted to work my social media (posting, hash-tagging, working with bloggers, creating a website, online advertising), I’ve done my own photoshoots, I have created my own brand from A to Z, I have participated in numerous Trunk Shows, I have presence in 5 stores in Miami + 1 in Costa Rica (and growing), I’m currently Trademarking my brand (wish me luck)…

I know it’s not polite to say ‘I’ so many times repeatedly, but I say ‘I’ with pride. I say it because I have fought for it and because today I am the happiest person I can be and I really hope that anyone who wants something so bad know they too can make it happen

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing comes easy BUT from everything you learn.

My earrings are handmade and they take about 6 hours a pair (depending on the style of course); they are also made in Latin America by a group of amazing woman who put their heart in soul! Because of the time and distance between my product and my client it definitely has been a major challenge however, with time we have managed to learn how to work together and how to properly move forward.

This is just one of many. I’m just at the beginning stages and I know MANY more obstacles will come my way, but I’m not scared. I think when you believe in your product and you feel the way I do you can overcome anything. There comes a point when the drive inside you becomes so empowering and you just keep going.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Rock & Bone is a jewelry line of handmade statement earrings. The word Rock symbolizes the different materials that come together to form my jewelry and Bone represents the initial state each piece begins with, like your sketch.

Our pieces are individually designed and hand made one by one and are therefore very unique and personal. No one pair is the exact same as any other. And this really is so important to me because as I mentioned earlier, I love things that are different and rare and the fact that each piece is unique from the other makes them truly ‘one of a kind’. They really cater to that one person who will wear them.

Being able to offer individuality is something that I think definitely sets me apart.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel Miami is a great place for my business. Miami is such a vibrant and colorful and loud city. It’s filled with such a mix of backgrounds and ethnicities. My jewelry feels the same way! Jaja they are vibrant and colorful and loud!

I think there is a market here for everyone; you just need to have the passion and drive. The world we live in today is so fast paced and people are evolving every day at a quicker pace. We see so much at greater speeds than we ever did. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad BUT it definitely helps when you’re operating a business.
