Inspiring Conversations with Juanita Sierra of Blu Ink Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juanita Sierra.

Hi Juanita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Colombia and moved to The US with my family when I was 18. I am a very pasionate interior designer, graduated from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2009. I had the opportunity to work and learn from great professionals in my field, until I decided to apply my knowledge and experience independently. With my husband’s support and my passion for interior design, we both created Blu Ink Interiors.

My professional experience includes interior design and architectural lighting projects for high-end homes and commercial spaces.

I had always dreamed about opening my own studio where I would be able to be creative, have a nice display of materials, meet with clients and providers. About four years ago we added to our portfolio an American made custom cabinetry line and a custom textile line from Colombia. I now have a great team that works with me and as a company we have proudly grown together with the same passion for design and have successfully completed beautiful projects through the years.

Today, I can happily say that we continue to listen to our clients, learn and create spaces that are not only stylish, environmentally friendly but well designed.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not an easy one, but thankfully I have my family’s support and good vibes always cheering so I don’t give up. Two of the biggest struggles starting was to meet the right people to work with and to get people to know me and trust my work.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have two different ways to approach projects. First, we team up with construction and design colleagues to complement and highlight their projects or second the end-users; who relay on our knowledge and experience to interpret their vision for a particular space or their complete home. We offer architectural lighting specification support, fixture procurement, custom cabinets and installation to other designers and/or contractors. When we work for end-users we are able to design a complete project from start to finish. With either type of client, we listen to the needs and present solutions that are perfectly specified for the project.

We are always happy to deliver what our clients envisioned for a final result.

I believe that the greatest and most satisfying challenge for each project is to be able to create a beautiful space with the client’s style and not imposing our own. At the end of the project you can tell we worked on the project, but always respecting the client’s vision and style.

Working with us is very simple: We start with the initial consultation to understand your design style, goals, and needs for your space. We make a financial proposal based on scope of work and specifications. We present our design ideas and material selections for approval. With the approval of these items, we procure the materials and begin the project.

Our services include: Full Interior Design, architectural illumination, new build materials and finishes specification, kitchen and bathroom design and renovation, custom closets and general cabinetry, custom fabrics and upholstery, window treatments, furniture and accessories specification and procurement, turn-key service among others.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom, Olga. My biggest fan and cheerleader; whom through hard work and laughter taught me how to keep going.

Santiago, my husband. My 100% confidant and supporter. The brain of Blu Ink Interiors and whom I owe the logical, non-emotional and complicated side of the business.

Felix, my great friend, kind and very talented designer who has recently joined the Blu Ink Interiors team and the many clients that have trusted us and enjoyed the ride.
