Daily Inspiration: Meet Alejandro Rowinsky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Rowinsky.

Hi Alejandro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was a child I always loved music, I have memories of attending classical and popular music concerts and I always enjoyed it. I remember that I wanted to play winds because I liked the Pink Panther cartoon music. When I was 16 years, I watched Imagine: John Lennon, a documentary film about his life and music, something activated inside me, and a deep desire to become a musician has blossomed into what I am today.

There was a guitar at home and decided to take it and started to play and practice several chords on my own, a neighbor gave me some music books and I began my musical journey. When I was 19 years old, I formed a rock band and started to jam and to write some tunes.

When I was 20 years old, I started taking classes with a classical guitar teacher for one year, and after that I continued studying on my own.

A few years later, I left my home country Uruguay and landed in Miami. I was playing at different venues and meeting local musicians. But at the same time I had to pay my bills and survive.  Thus, I used to be a Miami Taxi Driver for many years until Uber appeared and ruined the industry, leaving thousands of people without work, including myself.  At that time, my wife came up with the idea of sending one of my music videos to the Walt Disney Company casting office. And then, they selected me for an audition. I went there, it was a very strong and great experience, and the next day I received a call with the news that I was going to be part of Elena of Avalor’s show cast, the first Disney Latin princess at the Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom, Orlando….. Amazing !!! And there began this new stage in my life which remains today. YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXNMDsECVFs&t=119s

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily for me, I’ve had a lot of struggles and I will continue to have them, they are part of the game. But I am grateful because these issues develop my character. So, I’m not complaining. All these were needed, the lack of support, neediness, tragedies, apathy, the disinterest of those close to me, for me was necessary because made me who I am now and to have the humility to keep up in these extremely competitive environments.

I must say something very important, the company and support of my wife has been an essential component, we work and enjoy this trip together.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your music?
I’m a performer guitarist and I’ve played in more than 30 cities throughout the US. In these past five years, I have participated in Theatre plays, TV Commercials, Music Festivals like Taste of Polonia in Chicago, two times invited at Artscape Festival in Baltimore, Mise-En Contemporary Music Festival in New York, Skokie Festival of Cultures in Chicago, SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Fringe Festival in Finland, International Festival of Songs in Punta del Este, Uruguay, to name a few. Among so many experiences there was one very particular that I have been part of the church band at the HBO series “The Righteous Gemstones”. I’m proud of staying true to the teenager I once was, and who decided to follow this way, to not betray the requirements of my heart and my dreams,I am proud of many things, one of them, since I have been in this travel, I’ve had achieved everything in my career based on sacrifice and hard work. I’ve never received economic support from anybody, and I’ve obtained all my gigs and jobs honestly and clearly auditioning. And I feel very proud of it. I also feel as someone who believes that things can be improved in this world, a more supportive and humane world but this is accomplished with examples, and I believe in the good things of the people despite the fact that reality is too  complicated.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have many memories, this voyage has left me a lot of beautiful experiences but  If I have to choose one at this time, I gonna pick the last rehearsal at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom. That was during the night, the park was empty under the full moon, and I transported me to my childhood, was a very intense feeling, and at one moment I remember that my guitar talked to me and told me  “You see Alejandro, I told you, never give up”, and I burst into tears.
