Today we’d like to introduce you to Hatice Tuzun.
Hi Hatice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for music, my journey began when i was younger i was always singing and had a dream to become a pop star, i used to love Eminem and The Black Eyed Peas and would often act out that i was on stage singing and performing my favourite songs, i had this R&B CD which had a range of songs on it from BEYONCE, TLC, JoJo, Rihanna all of the artists i became inspired by, i have, in a way manifested the life i have today because i so strongly believed i would be a popstar!
Music was one of the only lessons in secondary school that i enjoyed, i was quite naughty in secondary school so would play up for the teachers but i had big respect for my music teacher, he helped me explore my creativity allot, i lernt how to play the Uke and Guitar because of him.
I ended up studying music at University where i battled self doubt for the 3 years i was there, i have learnt so much about my self on my journey as an artists and reflected allot on my behaviours and how i interreact with other creatives as its very over stimulating for me at times. I started releasing music properly in 2019 where my self growth and discovery really started, i havent stop since and im loving the journey i am on
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No way, it hasn’t been smooth at all. I have battled anxiety and self doubt for years, i used to shake up on stage and forget my words, i never used to be as confident and care free as i am now, it came with allot of work and dedication to the music. I knew i loved creativity and music but ran into obstacles where i would doubt myself and compare myself to others, BIG MISTAKE! – My story is my story, i turned this struggle into music with meaning which has been a success.
I think back when i was in Uni which was like 2016, tik tok and social media wasn’t that big so the only way to connect with people in the industry was to either go to university of get signed and i hated the thought of going back to school but i pushed myself so much in order to get my degree. Now looking back im so proud of myself but nowadays you don’t need to go to uni to become ”known” which i think is a good thing.
I’ve come to the realisation that theres only one REDRUM, there may be people similar to me but im my own unique selling point, im different and my story is unique.
I also was so scared to show people i could rap, i remember just focusing on acoustic indie songs because everyone i knew did that, after every performance i would hate it, i was never fulfilled until i just though F it, let me spit some bars, and everyone seemed to love it and ever since i haven’t looked back
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a female lyricist and singer from the UK, London. I am known for creating conscious rap which is often about the government and how unfair living conditions are such as the cost of living and the social homing/ cost of living crisis, i am widely known for creating UKG music, its my favourite genre EVER. I am also known for battle rap and appearing in Youtubers videos often roasting them or rapping something funny.
I’m proud of how far i have come since 2019. I love being on stage now and i am not afraid to be seen, i think being an artist comes with so much responsibility and commitment and this is something i struggled with, i can happily say i have overcome this and im really proud of it, i wouldn’t have been able to do it without my manager Hayley and my lovely supporters.
I’m different from most artists out now because i’m female and i MC but i also have a message for my audiences, i want to promote some sort of positive change whilst were in such a negative world, if i can go places because i followed my dream then you can too..
Im versatile, i don’t just rap i also sing, im a sucker for a melodic hook with airy vocals, catch me in the studio or simply at home vibing to instrumentals whilst i make vocal samples
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I would love to perform on more big stages, enhance my you tubing career and collaborate with more known names. I would also like to help the younger creatives navigate the music industry as its harder than what it seems, this is something i wish i had when i first bust on the scene, a mentorship would have gone a long way.
I am trying to broaden my portfolio, even though i love performing i think its time to travel and focus on vlogging, its something i find interesting and its a good time to let my supporters in on how my life actually operates. Its not all glits and glam and constant music, i am human too and i do normal things and with my vlogs im hoping to show this.
