Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Lopez

Hi Natalie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for inviting me to VoyageMIA!

My journey to becoming a lawyer started very early in life. My mom, a paralegal with 30 years of experience, often brought me to the Bronx courthouses. One day, toddler me managed to cause a full-on courthouse lockdown after running into an elevator and getting lost. When my mom finally found me, I was happily laughing with police officers. After that, my photo ended up framed in several courthouse offices. I guess you could say the legal community welcomed me with open arms.

Then as an outgoing teen, I tended to surround myself with people who lived boldly. Many of my friends ended up incarcerated, and I found myself offering emotional support. That’s when I realized this was something I could dedicate my life to. I loved hearing their stories, understanding their perspectives, and embracing the rebellious spirit that mirrored my own. It felt raw, real, and was a perfect fit. From high school, my passion for criminal law never wavered. In college, I worked as a legal assistant for a criminal defense firm by day and in restaurants and bars by night. Rolling silverware then turned into LSAT study sessions. My managers weren’t thrilled, but I stayed focused on the bigger picture. Those years of hustle shaped everything.

Law school was its own challenge. I buried myself in books at a desk facing the wall, while behind me, my friends and family enjoyed dinners and parties. While they celebrated, I spent my days and nights with my new best friends: books and the chair. It was isolating and stressful, but it paid off. During law school, I immersed myself in criminal law, interning with public defender’s offices. I decided to spend a summer in Detroit, where I handled a high-profile plea negotiation and sat on a murder trial. The love continued to grow stronger from there.  Then after I passed the bar, I accepted a position as a public defender because criminal law was always the only choice for me. It aligned with everything I had worked for and I couldn’t wait to be in a courtroom on my own. Now I live everyday learning it was never just about being a lawyer—but about being in a position where I can assist in holding the government accountable, helping clients rewrite their stories, and giving people a chance to rebuild their lives. I’m living my dream, and it’s even better than I ever imagined.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth sailing? No. But honestly, now that I have been through it, it wasn’t “that” hard and I can handle so much more. The journey to becoming a lawyer is anything but straightforward. Self-doubt and impatience are often the first hurdles, and when you’re buried in books all day, it can feel like you’ll never reach the finish line of actually becoming an attorney. Studying feels endless, and you constantly question whether you’ll ever master the material. But here’s the truth: it’s not just about passing exams or memorizing laws—it’s about believing you belong in this profession. And funny enough, self-doubt doesn’t disappear once you pass the bar. It follows you into your early years as a lawyer, but the key is always being prepared.

My early years as an attorney came with their own challenges. COVID transformed the practice of law in ways we never imagined. For criminal defense attorneys, it was particularly rough. Clients were stuck in jails, court remedies were limited, and the system seemed to stall completely. It was a frustrating time. After navigating that, I joined a private firm where I started practicing some civil litigation fields I wasn’t familiar with at the time. In this profession, learning never stops, and tackling new areas of law  can be exciting and daunting. As attorneys, we’re wired to want to feel ahead of everything. Facing learning curves challenge that sense of control, but also push you to grow.

And of course, there were the challenges of opening my own firm. Running a practice means constant learning, managing pressure, and staying ahead. But like everything else in my career, each obstacle has been incredibly rewarding. Every challenge has shaped me into the attorney I am today, and I wouldn’t change a thing about the journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Natalie Lopez Attorney at Law, P.A.  For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My law firm is a reflection of who I am—authentic, driven, and straightforward. I’m not about following the crowd; I’m about giving everything I’ve got to fight for my clients and deliver the results they deserve. My work is fueled by passion, grit, and a relentless drive to succeed. What makes my brand unique is how personal it is. My firm is young, vibrant, and deeply rooted in integrity.  I specialize in the trifecta of legal challenges: criminal defense, domestic violence, and family law litigation. These areas often overlap, and I take pride in offering a holistic approach to my clients’ unique situations. I’m known for being detail-oriented, hardworking, and dedicated to the people I represent.

Outside the courtroom, I’m all about adventure—riding ATVs, sponsoring athletes, and drawing inspiration from martial arts. That’s why our tagline is “Prepare to Conquer Your Case”—because preparation and persistence are at the heart of everything we do.

I envision the brand continuing to grow and evolve, reflecting a commitment to excellence, innovation, and delivering confidence, tailored strategies, and practical solutions to clients.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
An important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to be yourself. Early on, my focus was heavily geared toward “becoming a lawyer.” But as the years have passed, I’ve come to understand the business side of law. This profession isn’t just about practicing law—it’s about building and managing something meaningful, navigating the unexpected, learning how to delegate, and making strategic decisions while taking calculated risks that drive growth.

This journey has taught me to embrace change, adapt to challenges, and stay sharp. I’ve realized that this is only the beginning of my career, and there’s so much more to achieve. Remaining authentic and open to the ever-evolving nature of this profession keeps me motivated and excited about the endless possibilities ahead.
