Meet Johnese Fontanez of Bailey & Bella Cavapoos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnese Fontanez.

Hi Johnese, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with Bailey! When the pandemic first started my job decided to close our office and let us all work remotely. Since I was home all day and had more time to dedicate to a new puppy I decided, like many other people during the pandemic, that now was the perfect time to get a puppy. I did so much research on what breed would be the best fit for me and decided on a Cavapoo for their calm and gentle personalities. Once I knew for sure what breed I wanted the hunt for my dream puppy began!

I spent weeks searching for the perfect puppy from a responsible breeder. I had set in my mind that I wanted a curly, red female with white markings and I wasn’t planning to settle. Until I found Bailey… a boy and no white markings! I know I just said I was not planning to settle, but if you could see his puppy photos that I saw online, you would absolutely understand why I chose to go with him. He had the cutest face with the sweetest puppy dog eyes and I fell in love with him immediately. I knew I had to have him and when I spoke with his breeder she sold the deal. I could tell he was raised with so much love and responsibly.

When Bailey came home, he instantly filled our home with so much joy, love, and healing. Bailey came home to us right after a tragic loss in our family, so little did he know, we needed him more than he needed us! We loved Bailey so much that not even a few short months later, we decided to add another Cavapoo to our family. That’s when we found Bella! My dream Cavapoo! She was exactly what I was looking for originally, a female, curly, and red with the perfect white markings! Bella is the perfect example of good things comes to those who wait… even though we didn’t truly wait, but still, I’m sure you get the point!

Bailey and Bella have changed our lives for the better and they have no idea. The healing power of dog is something I feel is so overlooked or just not that known and it is truly unmatched. After about a year of having Bailey and Bella, I decided that I wanted to spread that same love and healing that Bailey and Bella offer us unto other families. That is how we became Bailey & Bella Cavapoos and that is how we got here today!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road to say the least. Once I knew that I wanted to start breeding puppies, I decided to start doing my research because I wanted to do everything the correct way! I didn’t want to just be another backyard breeder in it for the money. I spent so much time researching and learning, still till this day, I am continuing my education and furthering my knowledge when it comes to breeding. There are so many courses and resources out there for breeders. I have already completed a few courses and am currently enrolled in another online course designed for evaluating the temperament of a puppy.

Breeding is definitely not an easy, get rich quick thing! It takes time, patience, so much learning, and, believe it or not, money. Breeding is expensive! It costs to learn and take all these online courses. It costs just to make sure my dam is healthy, so that means frequent trips to our primary vet and our reproductive vet which costs money, progesterone tests costs money, artificial insemination costs money, ultrasounds and x-rays costs money, a well-fed diet and supplements costs money, whelping supplies costs money, and so much more! Not only is it expensive, but it’s so time-consuming. I have had to miss out on so many birthdays, vacations, girl’s night out, you name it. Now that I’m a breeder, my dogs and my puppies have to come first. When a litter of puppies are on the ground, I am not available for the next eight weeks, so don’t ask because the answer is no. I am too busy raising puppies and pouring all my love and energy into these little heart healers!

We’ve been impressed with Bailey & Bella Cavapoos, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small in-home breeding program. All of our puppies are raised, loved, and spoiled right here in our home! We cherish each of our dogs and puppies, and we do everything we can to make sure that they get the best lives possible. That includes everything from choosing healthy parents with exceptional temperaments, to proper socialization and daily care, to placing them in loving homes with wonderful families. We strive to provide each of our puppies and their families with a truly positive experience!

Before going home each of our puppies receives a nose to tail exam with our vet, where they will receive their microchip, first round of vaccinations and rule out any health concerns. Our puppies go home with a one-year health guarantee that protects against any hereditary or congenital birth defects. They also go home with 30 days of free pet insurance!

Our puppies are introduced to Early Neurological Stimulation(ENS) and Early Scent Introduction(ESI). These are both a prescribed series of exercises which each puppy goes through every day, from days 3-16, for 3-5 seconds each time. ENS exposes the puppy to very slight stressors – which have an optimal effect on the developing brain and immune system. ESI exposes the puppy to one novel non-food scent each day which stimulates the development of the nose and scenting abilities.

Each puppy is also safely introduced to crate training and potty training before going home. So far, we have only received positive feedback from our families letting us know how well their puppies are doing in the crate and how excellent they are with potty training.

Before going home, we also temperament test each of our puppies. We do this to ensure that we are matching families with the perfect puppy that fits their lifestyle. We do not just sell a puppy solely on their looks or gender. We make sure each puppy is strategically placed with a family based on the results of their temperament test results.
