Life & Work with Chantal Rodriguez of Wynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantal Rodriguez

Hi Chantal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from southern New Hampshire, and my background is shaped by both my family’s roots in Puerto Rico and my experiences growing up as a first-generation Latina. I was the only Latina in my graduating class, which gave me a unique perspective and a sense of determination to pave my own path.

I went on to study criminal justice in college, but during that time, I worked at Apple, which introduced me to the tech industry. What started as a part-time job turned into an unexpected career opportunity. I was able to turn my role at Apple into a full-fledged career in tech, which was both exciting and a little unconventional for someone with a criminal justice background.

In addition to my career in tech, I’ve always had a passion for content creation. I love curating content for brands, showcasing their products, and telling their stories in a way that resonates with audiences. This creative side has allowed me to combine my technical expertise with my passion for storytelling, whether it’s through social media, blogs, or other platforms.

Today, I’m working as a technical support engineer for a software company that uses AI to help mental health providers across the country. It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of a team that’s making a meaningful impact, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come, especially as a Latina in a predominantly male and non-Latina industry.

It’s been an amazing journey of learning and growth, and I’m excited to see where it continues to take me!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and there have been several challenges along the way. As a first-generation college student, I faced a lot of uncertainty. I was raised in a middle-class, predominantly white area where everyone seemed to know exactly where they were going to college and how they were going to pay for it. For me, it was a whole different story—I had no idea how I would afford it or where I should even apply. I quickly had to make the tough decision to abandon my dream of attending a large state school in favor of something more affordable, which was disappointing but also a huge learning experience.

Another major struggle I faced was with my identity. Growing up, I lived in a place where no one looked like me, spoke my language, or shared the same customs as I did. While others would see their extended families a few times a year, I saw mine a few times a day. It was hard to reconcile those differences, and I didn’t know where I fit in for a while. Moving to Miami was a turning point for me. It helped me reconnect with my Latinidad, and I finally felt like I could embrace my Latina identity fully, without hesitation or doubt.

Lastly, working as a female in tech has come with its own set of challenges. The industry is still heavily male-dominated, and I’ve faced discrimination firsthand. One of the most jarring experiences came while working at Apple when a father, at the very end of a transaction, told me that he didn’t think I would be smart enough to help them. Moments like that have been tough, but they’ve also motivated me to prove myself and push through the obstacles that come with being a woman in tech.

Despite these struggles, each challenge has shaped who I am today, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work as a technical support engineer for an AI software company that helps mental health providers across the country. I specialize in customer support and enhancing the overall customer experience. My passion lies in creating self-serving solutions, ensuring that every interaction with our product is a positive one, and developing both my team and myself. I’m deeply committed to making processes more efficient and customer-friendly, which drives me every day.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to help scale teams. I’ve found a true passion for working with startups and playing a role in their growth. I’ve been fortunate to help build resources, set standards, and grow teams. For example, I helped take a team of 2 and expand it to 6, and in my current role, I’ve already been part of growing our team from 2 to 4 with more growth on the horizon. The ability to see a small team develop into something bigger and more capable is incredibly rewarding.

What sets me apart from others is my drive and dedication. I don’t like stopping until the job is done and perfected. I’m known for my attention to detail and my ability to set clear standards that others can follow, ensuring consistency and quality in everything we do. Whether it’s building a team or improving customer interactions, I focus on delivering excellence at every step.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as doing something you truly love and are passionate about. It’s not just about monetary value—success can also be measured by the physical, emotional, or personal strides you make. If you’re growing, learning, and feeling fulfilled, that, to me, is success.

For me, success is waking up every day excited about the direction your life is heading and the work you’re dedicating yourself to. When you can look at your life and feel content with the path you’re on and the impact you’re making, that’s when you know you’re truly successful.
