Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Sordo of Beyond Fitness Coaching

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started about 9 years ago. At a young age, I found myself freshly divorced with a baby, excessively overweight, and financially unstable. After months of feeling depressed and hopeless, I decided to start working out. My driving motivation at the time was that “no one wanted to date an overweight divorcee with a child.” What started off as something superficial quickly trickled onto other aspects of my life. My decisions were thoughtful and intentional. No matter how small they were, they amounted to a full transformation – mind, body & soul. After just a few weeks, I had created new healthy habits. I fueled my body with healthier choices, I did some form of movement multiple times a week, I had more energy, my outlook was more positive, and I felt confident for the first time in a long time. I can truly say that every facet of my life benefited from my new healthy lifestyle; my health, relationships, my career, my faith. Having the opportunity of hurdling the challenges I’ve gone through; I realize that I want to pay it forward. For this reason, I decided to pursue a Health Coach Certification and open my own practice. I simply want to help others create sustainable habit change that will transform their lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say it’s been an interesting journey so far. As with most small business launches, initial clients are typically family and friends, which has worked out well as I’ve been able to help loved ones along the way. The biggest challenge has been connecting virtually with potential clients. Often times, these services are best provided on a face to face basis. I’ve had to strategically schedule phone / video calls in order to ensure that the client is getting the best experience out of each session.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Beyond Fitness Coaching was created to help others achieve health and wellness goals. Through discovery sessions, we take a deep dive and uncover the underlying factor that prompted the client to seek coaching. Together, we develop actionable goals and follow up weekly to discuss progress. My role as a coach is to hold my client’s truth until he/she can see it and feel it for themselves. I’ve experienced defeat. Sometimes, that “light at the end of the tunnel” is not there. My goal is to guide others towards their desired outcome by helping them create new habits that will get them there. Beyond Fitness Coaching is not meant to be a quick fix. We tackle challenges one day at a time and empower our clients to take back control of their lives.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family matters most to me. Everything I do is for them. My duty is to love, provide and protect them. In order for me to do so, I must give them the absolute best version of myself. I am a huge advocate of self-care for this very reason.
