Exploring Life & Business with Cavan Mitchell of Red Rock Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cavan Mitchell.

Hi Cavan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the cleaning industry wasn’t planned—it was born out of a necessity to solve my own problem. I was managing a growing portfolio of my own Airbnb properties, and as any host knows, the heartbeat of a 5-star stay is the turnover.

I had spent months meticulously building and training a specialized cleaning team that understood the high-stakes world of short-term rentals. They weren’t just cleaning; they were “staging for an experience.”

As the market shifted, I found myself focused on a new challenge: Keeping my team active. I hated the idea of losing my best people during the Airbnb “shoulder seasons.” To bridge the gap, I started offering our specialized turnover services to other local hosts.
I quickly realized that while many people can clean a house, very few understand the “hospitality standard” required for a professional vacation rental.

What started as a way to support my staff quickly took on a life of its own. The demand for reliable, high-standard cleaning exploded. Almost overnight, the marketing for our cleaning services began to outpace my own Airbnb revenue.

That was my “lightbulb moment.” I realized I could provide more value to the community by professionalizing the cleaning experience for hundreds of owners than I could by just managing my own units. I decided to pivot 100%, committing my focus to building what is now Red Rock Cleaning. Today, we don’t just clean spaces; we protect the reputations of homeowners and the comfort of guests across multiple states.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first year was my “trial by fire.” While I was an expert in Airbnb turnovers, I quickly realized that Deep Cleaning, Move-Out Cleaning, and Post-Construction Cleaning are entirely different beasts. They require different chemicals, different checklists, and a different level of physical stamina.

I didn’t just have to learn the technical side; I had to learn how to recruit for it. Hiring cleaners who possessed the specific grit for a “post-construction” site versus the “hospitality touch” for a luxury home was a major hurdle. I spent my first 12 months in the trenches, learning the nuances of every service we now offer so that I could eventually lead with authority.

For the first year, I was the CEO, the dispatcher, and the customer support line. I was tied to my phone 24/7, as every phone call made a difference no matter what time it was.

The best decision I ever made was hiring my first administrative assistant. It felt like a risk at the time, but it was the key that unlocked our growth. By delegating the repetitive, high-volume tasks of scheduling and support, I finally had the “white space” to think about strategy, expansion, and quality control. That single hire was the catalyst that allowed us to scale from a local operation to a multi-city cleaning powerhouse.

We’ve been impressed with Red Rock Cleaning, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What should we know about Red Rock Cleaning?
We are a high-performance cleaning organization built on the high stakes of the hospitality industry. While we started by perfecting the rapid-fire, high-standard world of Airbnb turnovers, we’ve evolved into a sophisticated operation specializing in the “Heavy Hits” of cleaning: Move-Out Cleanings, Medical & Office Sanitization, and Repeat Deep Cleans. We don’t just “tidy up”; we restore environments. Whether it’s a property manager needing a seamless tenant transition or a business owner requiring a sterile, productive workspace, we provide the technical expertise to handle it.

What sets us apart?
Most cleaning companies are either “Mom and Pop” shops with inconsistent standards or giant franchises that lose the personal touch. Red Rock sits in the “Goldilocks Zone.” * The Hospitality DNA: Because we started with Airbnbs, our attention to detail is obsessive. We look for the “hidden” dust—under the baseboards, inside the vents, and behind the appliances—that others miss.

Tech-Forward Operations: We use a streamlined, data-driven approach to scheduling and quality control. This allows us to offer the reliability of a corporation with the agility of a local partner.

What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
I am most proud of our Resilience and Reputation. Transitioning from a single-service niche into a multi-city, multi-service brand was a massive undertaking. Seeing our brand become a “Top-Rated” name in cities like Las Vegas, Oahu, Maui, Columbus, Dallas and South Florida—and maintaining those 5-star standards across state lines—is my greatest professional achievement. We’ve built a brand that people trust with their most valuable assets: their homes and their businesses.

What do you want readers to know?
We want you to know that cleaning is an investment, not an expense. A truly deep clean extends the life of your flooring, improves indoor air quality, and—most importantly—gives you back your time. Whether you are moving into a new home in Dallas or managing a showroom in Maui, Red Rock is here to handle the “dirty work” so you can focus on what you do best.

Any big plans?
What are your plans for the future?
Our immediate focus is on Deepening our Footprint. We’ve successfully launched in major hubs like Las Vegas, Oahu, and South Florida, and now we are refining our “Playbook” to ensure that the Red Rock Standard is identical whether you’re in a high-rise in Dallas or a beachfront villa in Maui.

What are you looking forward to?
I am most excited about the Integration of Technology in Home Services. We are currently developing a more robust “Client Portal” that goes beyond simple booking. We want to give our recurring clients—especially our property managers and busy professionals—a real-time dashboard where they can track their cleaning history, view “Before & After” photos of every turnover, and manage multiple properties with a single click. We aren’t just a cleaning company; we are becoming a Logistics and Hospitality Partner.

The Big Changes Ahead
The biggest shift on the horizon is our move into Commercial Partnerships at Scale. While residential cleaning is our foundation, we are seeing a massive demand for our “Hospitality-Grade” cleaning in the commercial sector—specifically for luxury showrooms, boutique offices, and specialized medical facilities. These spaces require a level of detail that traditional commercial janitorial services often miss.

Personally, I am planning for a future where I spend more time Mentoring and Training. I want to build a “Red Rock Academy” for our staff—a formal training program that doesn’t just teach someone how to clean, but how to master the art of hospitality.

The goal is simple: To make Red Rock Cleaning the most trusted name in the industry, known not just for how we leave a room, but for how we treat the people who live and work inside them.
