Exploring Life & Business with Brooke Waszak of Brooke Joy Sells Homes, LoKation RE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Waszak.

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Truth is, I became a realtor when I was in a relationship with a man who literally said to me… “You’re so smart, how is it that you’re not making tons of money?!?” It was an idea that had crossed my mind before that relationship, but I had never taken action on it. I have a degree in Urban Planning and a general love of houses, so it all made sense. I quickly took the class, passed the exams, and voila I was a realtor. I hit the ground running. When you’re becoming a realtor a lot of people tell you how you’re not going to make any money the first year. But I literally closed my first deal six weeks after hanging my license. My first client (a friend’s mother) was initially looking for a rental, I took her around town showing her a few options. Then, following my instincts, I offered to show her where my mother lived because I suspected she would like it a lot. Well, I did, and she did. She wound up buying one of the condos there and lived there happily for five years. The first year of my business I closed twelve transactions (averaging one per month). The second year 1.5 per month. The third year 2 per month. And it has been consistent since then. I believe the keys to my success as a realtor are the following… 1) I practice the mindset of Abundance Consciousness. This means that I trust that there is plenty for everyone. I need not feel afraid of not having enough. This supports me as a realtor because I never feel like I need to have someone close on a property, which leads me to the next principle… 2) I choose to serve the highest and greatest good for ALL (all parties involved- Buyer, Seller, Agents, whomever is involved in the transaction). I deeply believe that there is always a win-win-win available and it is my job to find that sweet spot. As a realtor, of course, I love to have closings because that is how/when I get paid. But occasionally that may not be in the highest & greatest good of those involved. I try not to be bothered by those situations. I (again) choose to practice trusting that there is enough, I will have what I need, etc. and 3) I choose to be authentic and have integrity. I know that eventually they will buy or sell. I feel no need to push them. I perceive my role as an expert guide. I provide them with the best, most detailed information possible so that they can make an informed choice that is best for themselves. In September 2021 I had a baby. I had saved a bunch of money in case I couldn’t work. Somehow, I managed to have a steady flow of business throughout 2021 & 2022 without even trying. I was also tremendously blessed to have a lot of listings at that time, which was easier than working with Buyers (Buyers require driving around and showing lots of properties), All in all, I consider myself a successful realtor. I earn six figures a year, I truly enjoy what I do and most of my clients go on to become friends.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In every endeavor there are challenges. So, I am sure I have had some. But I also have tremendous support from my broker/brokerage (Jonathan Lickstein/LoKation Real Estate) and from a few amazing colleagues (who have been in the business for decades), so I every challenge that has arisen has been resolved, and a learning experience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brooke Joy Sells Homes, LoKation RE?
