Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Liles.
Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I believe fitness was always going to be a part of my journey. I was pointed in that direction through every angle in life.
I started babysitting at the local gym as a teenager, and joined many doctor visits and PT appointments with a sick parent growing up. Just as I was taking a detour, my best friend at the time opened up a fitness studio – so I started my certification, and the rest is history!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
What’s a smooth road? I’ve had SO many obstacles, but they absolutely made me stronger – as well as my skill set.
Experience is everything, and I definitely got thrown to the wolves in just about every atmosphere I’ve worked in. As much as that helped me, today I try to help other trainers expand in a much less aggressive way.
Unfortunately, many certifications these days take too many shortcuts, so I feel like I can help by bridging the gap.
I injured myself years ago, and believe it or not, that’s another thing I wouldn’t change for the world. The journey to healing myself created so much insight and new exploration, which in turn changed the way I train.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
After training for 20 years, not long ago I realized that I was complimented often on my class flow.
Somehow, I made the connection with flow to my passion for writing. I realized the commonalities between the two, and since that fire has been relit – it’s not going out any time soon! I’ve had about 12 poems and short stories published, which for me is huge. I’ve never loved the spotlight, so putting myself out there was hard. I can love teaching movement all day long, but at the end of the day – I believe we all need an outlet.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
As I get older, I realize how true it is that nothing good comes easy. You can love what you do, but if there aren’t some bumps in the road along the way, you are never going to get the experience you need to get to the next level. At the time, it may be discouraging, or feel like you picked the wrong field. Hold on tight, because you will look back on those times with such a brighter insight once you are on the other side!
