Community Highlights: Meet Carrie Convers of Prismatic Counseling and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Convers.

Hi Carrie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a mental health therapist for over 14 years, and my path here has been a mix of heart, hustle, and a lot of learning. I started out working in community mental health and treatment centers, eventually stepping into leadership roles where I trained and supervised other therapists. Along the way, I became really passionate about advocacy, especially for the trans and gender-diverse community. Over time, I realized there wasn’t enough truly affirming, specialized care for LGBTQIA+ folks and trauma survivors—so I decided to build that space myself. That’s how Prismatic Counseling and Wellness was born. It makes my heart happy helping people and those who love them navigate the journey of self-discovery and learning the tools to create an authentic life as their best selves. Today, I get to work with an incredible team, supporting people both in our Boca Raton office and online across Florida, and I feel so lucky that this is my job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Running a therapy practice means wearing so many hats—therapist, business owner, manager, marketer, problem-solver. There were times when self-doubt and fear of failure crept in, and I had to learn to trust myself and lean on my team as the practice grew. Serving marginalized communities also means navigating systemic challenges alongside my clients, as well as finding and coordinating care with other professionals and support services who are equally passionate about working with these populations. It takes time and persistence, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Seeing my clients feel truly seen and begin living their best lives makes all of the hard work worth it. Every challenge has taught me something valuable and strengthened my commitment to creating a safe, supportive space for both clients and my team.

As you know, we’re big fans of Prismatic Counseling and Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re a close-knit team of mental health professionals based in Boca Raton, offering individual, couples, and family therapy to clients across Florida through both in-person and online sessions. We specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, and working with the LGBTQIA+ community. What makes us unique is the way we blend clinical expertise with lived experience and a genuine passion for helping people step into their most authentic selves. We find so much joy in walking alongside people and their loved ones as they explore who they are, discover their strengths, and learn the tools to create a life that feels true to them. Therapy with us isn’t just about talking through problems—it’s about building practical skills that create real, lasting change. One of the things we’re most proud of is the trust our clients place in us; it’s a privilege to be part of someone’s healing journey.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Mentorship has been such an important part of my growth. My biggest tip is to be intentional—know what you’re looking for, and then seek out people who inspire you, whether that’s in your local community, at conferences, or even online. I look for mentors who not only have professional expertise, but also lived experience—there’s a depth of understanding that comes from walking the path themselves. Some of my best mentors came from simply striking up a conversation and asking thoughtful questions. And don’t just think of networking as collecting contacts—it’s about building genuine relationships. Be curious, be generous with your own knowledge, and the right connections will often follow.
