Community Highlights: Meet Anniesha McDonald of Pompano Beauty Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anniesha McDonald.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve dreamed of becoming a teacher since I was five years old. Even before I understood what entrepreneurship meant, I knew I wanted to lead, guide, and help others step into their full potential. That calling never left me, it simply evolved.
I began my journey in the beauty industry over ten years ago with a single vision: create something of my own that reflected excellence, discipline, and opportunity. That vision became Ann-LASH Beauty Bar. What started as a beauty service business quickly became proof that structure, professionalism, and high standards could thrive in an industry often underestimated. I wasn’t just building a clientele, I was building systems, branding, and a reputation rooted in quality.
As my business grew, so did something else, students. Young women began asking me to mentor them. They didn’t just want to learn lashes, waxing, and facials; they wanted guidance, stability, and a pathway to independence. That’s when I realized my childhood dream of becoming a teacher had quietly resurfaced.
That realization led me to advocate for something bigger than myself. I presented to the Florida Department of Education to push for hybrid learning in beauty education, recognizing that many aspiring students were balancing work, housing instability, and inflation-driven financial pressures. That advocacy helped pave the way for what would become Pompano Beauty Academy, the only beauty school in Florida offering both hybrid and in-person education at the time of its launch.
Today, I stand as both founder and educator, having guided over 1,000 students throughout my career. My journey has been fueled by faith, discipline, and an unwavering belief that beauty education can be a legitimate vehicle for generational change. I’ve experienced moments of excitement, pressure, and even imposter syndrome, but each milestone has confirmed that I am exactly where I’m meant to be.
What started as a beauty service became a platform. What began as a childhood dream became an institution. And I’m just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I’ve learned that smooth roads rarely produce strong leaders.
When I launched Ann-LASH Beauty Bar, I was stepping into an industry that looks glamorous on the outside but demands relentless discipline behind the scenes. Building credibility, maintaining high standards, and separating myself from hobbyists required structure, consistency, and thick skin. There were moments of financial pressure, long hours, and the constant responsibility of being the decision-maker with no safety net.
Transitioning from entrepreneur to founder of Pompano Beauty Academy brought an entirely different level of challenge. Opening a school isn’t just about passion, it involves regulation, curriculum development, compliance, staffing, and advocacy. Presenting hybrid education as a legitimate model required courage. I had to articulate why flexibility wasn’t lowering standards, it was increasing access. That meant stepping into rooms where I had to defend my vision with confidence.
There were also internal struggles, moments of imposter syndrome, navigating rapid growth, and carrying the weight of students’ futures on my shoulders. Leadership can feel isolating at times.
But every obstacle strengthened my resolve. The struggles taught me structure. The pressure refined my voice. And the resistance confirmed that I was building something impactful.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been purposeful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At its core, my work centers around ownership, education, and elevation within the beauty industry.
Pompano Beauty Academy is a licensed beauty institution designed to do more than teach technical skills. We prepare students for licensure, entrepreneurship, and long-term career sustainability. We specialize in esthetics, skincare, makeup artistry, and advanced beauty techniques, with a curriculum that blends theory, hands-on practice, business education, and real-world preparation.
What sets us apart is our hybrid education model. We became the first beauty school in Florida to offer both hybrid and in-person learning, creating accessibility for students who are balancing work, family responsibilities, and financial pressures. Our programs are structured, compliant, and academically sound, but also flexible enough to reflect modern realities. That balance between rigor and accessibility is something I’m extremely proud of.
Before the academy, there was Ann-LASH Beauty Bar, my beauty studio and proof of concept. The studio specializes in sugaring hair removal, advanced facials, lash extensions and beauty enhancement services, but more importantly, it established our standard of excellence. It built the brand reputation that allowed us to expand into education. We became known for professionalism, high standards, client experience, and consistency.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the structure and credibility we’ve built. In an industry that can sometimes lack regulation or business discipline, we operate with systems, policies, documented curriculum, and measurable outcomes. Our students don’t just leave with a certificate, they leave prepared to stand for resilience, open businesses, manage finances, and position themselves competitively.
I want readers to know that this brand is built on intention. We are not trend-driven, we are impact-driven. We believe beauty education is a legitimate pathway to economic mobility, especially for young women seeking independence and ownership.
Whether through services or education, our mission remains the same: elevate the standard, expand access, and create leaders within the beauty industry.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t attribute my journey to luck, I attribute it to preparation, faith, and disciplined execution.
From the outside, some milestones may look like “good luck.” Being selected for competitive programs, successfully advocating for hybrid education, opening Pompano Beauty Academy, or scaling Ann-LASH Beauty Bar, those moments can appear fortunate. But behind each of them were long nights, detailed planning, strategic risk-taking, and a willingness to step into rooms where I had to prove myself.
If anything, what some might call “bad luck” became refinement. Delays, regulatory hurdles, financial pressures, and moments of doubt forced me to sharpen my leadership skills. They strengthened my systems. They strengthened my voice. They strengthened my resilience.
I believe opportunity meets preparation. When doors opened, I was ready to walk through them because I had done the groundwork. And when doors didn’t open, I built new ones.
So if luck has played a role, it has been in the form of timing, meeting the right people after I had already prepared myself for the opportunity. But the foundation has always been discipline, faith, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
