Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina DeMarco.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve loved hair and makeup since I was a young girl. My mom always says I went into the industry that God created me for. I officially went into the industry in my early 20s and felt like I had a laser-like focus at that time, as I had some adulthood under my belt that had molded me a bit. I knew I was ready to dive in 1000% and make it into a career!
Fast forward 10 years, and I’m still so in love with this industry! God had plans to bring my life to Florida 6 years ago, and that was life-changing! After plugging into the industry here for a few years and getting my footing, I quickly felt the desire to start my own hair and makeup business 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back. I’ve loved every second since starting my business, Fifth and Eighth Beauty, and making the choice to pave my own path in this industry! It’s been a blessing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve definitely had some tough seasons, and entrepreneurship is scary as well. Wondering if you’ll make it. The start-up expenses and expenses to maintain your business, all while hoping you’ll grow and build your brand, and take that leap of faith. The journey alongside adulthood too and life’s hurdles can be really hard sometimes.
I started my business in 2020, amidst the pandemic and just after having my first child. I had many worries and fears. Questioning myself was constant. I had to give all that to God and trust Him and the desire that He put into my heart. I kept the focus on the dream and goals, not the fears and worries. If He calls you to it, He will take care of you. He proves that every day!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a professional hair stylist and makeup artist, I love getting people ready and making them feel their best. I have all different types of clients, and many of them trust me with the most special days or events of their lives! It’s an honor to have people trust you with their appearance, and that never gets old to me. It fuels my passion every day!
I strive to make every person that sits in my chair feel like they are being completely seen and heard while I’m servicing them. Working to get clients ready for camera exposure is my arena. Whether that’s brides, models, actors/actresses, business professionals, celebrities, tv hosts, etc. I always say, whatever is needed for hairstyling or makeup, I’m there!
I’m most proud of the fact that my children will get to watch their mother not only be consistently present for them, but they’ll get to see that even while placing your family first, you can still pursue dreams and personal goals and passions too. Setting a great example for my children in everything that I do is most important to me.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
God is first and foremost who I give all the credit. He is the one who placed the passion in my heart for this industry, alongside giving me the gifts to do these things. Without Him, I’m nothing. My husband Vincent is my biggest supporter. He is always encouraging me to chase my dreams, and knowing he has my back, gives me a lot of bravery and strength to keep reaching!
I’ve been blessed with many mentors and artists over the years that have played a big role in influencing me and shaping me into the artist I am today. Some have taught me things I wouldn’t want to do, and many have taught or mentored me into becoming the best artist I can be. It’s all beneficial if you look at it that way, and I’m thankful for every single person and experience along my journey because it has molded me into who I am now.
