Meet Katrina Domond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Domond.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started modeling in 2015; I was published in an upcoming magazine dedicated to black women. Further on modeling became my thing I’ve kept it going since. Like any artist, I’ve had thoughts of giving up countless times and still do. The key is to keep pushing. Fun fact; although not everyone knows who I am, I was featured on one of today’s biggest social media blog called theshaderoom in February for the brand icon swim. It makes me think you never know who’s watching. As far as my fashion sense and styling and directing some of my shoots, I’ve always loved putting outfits together for myself. A lot of people ask where I get some of my pieces, so to put it out there I am an elite thrifter lol. I love fashion, and a lot of mines come from the eras of the 60s- early 2000s. One thing I always say is don’t be afraid to be yourself!

Please tell us about your art.
I model and style because it gives me the opportunity to express myself. Not only that, but I also give hope to other beautiful dark skin women hoping to be noticed and get a spotlight. I’ve had many messages where other black women thanked me because I’m a part of their growth and confidence. As we know, it is way harder for dark skin women to be at the top in many industries. I take joy in giving another women like me hope. We can all do it no matter what shade! In addition, styling helps me express myself, and it is sort of like an ID. Fun, urban and vintage is how I or anyone else would define me if they are to look at my work. Styling has also given me the opportunity to work with others, many people have messaged me to style them for their birthday, trips, photo shoots and more. I don’t really post much about it because it is something I do as a passion. It makes me full of joy to see someone’s excitement after I’ve succeeded their looks. I am currently looking to get more serious in styling so be on the lookout for some dope upcoming work.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I was once in a space where I felt like giving up because I didn’t know people just as creative as me. I changed that by messaging people I know, I’d want to work with. Don’t be afraid to speak to people, don’t be afraid to make new friends, don’t be afraid to network. Sometimes those artists are looking for people to work with as well. If you want people that are into the same art as you, you are more likely to get better results by messaging them then waiting for someone just as dope to message you.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I currently don’t have a portfolio page, but I do post my work on social media’s such as Instagram @_k.lorene and twitter @_klorene
