Check out Gabriela Da Silva’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Da Silva.

Gabriela, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My parents immigrated to the U.S from Brazil for a better life when I was four. Besides hard work, they always instilled in me the value of believing in what you do and going after it wholeheartedly.

My grandma does a little painting, and I would join her when I was a kid, but besides that, I don’t know of any artists in my family. I’m going about my artistic career with a completely blank slate of expectations and possibilities.

I began to share my vision with the world as a proclamation of the excitement, confusion, love, and curiosity that accompanied my journey.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a visual artist specializing in photo and video.

My photography is a fusion of documentary, art, editorial, and personal work while my videos have mainly been centered around music and fashion as of late.

With people being a huge component of my inspiration, I aim to provide an abstract yet intimate and honest look into how humans design themselves. Whether it is through subtleties, colors, details, dialogue, or emotions, I create to share a broad realm of perspectives and narratives.

Video is one of my favorite storytelling methods because it incorporates so many aspects like visuals, sounds, and style that can make it personal or even foreign and enlightening to the viewer.

Interactive video installations are something I aspire to curate one day. A full immersible story. I want to do this so we can all learn more about each other and our experiences in a new way that captures the attention and leaves an imprint in our minds.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I’ll know I’m a successful artist when I solidify the financial freedom to take care of myself and my family while focusing on art for the rest of my life. Money isn’t everything to me, but it seems that a lot of people like to write the narrative for artists saying that if they’re getting consistent work, then they should be satisfied with their career. Let’s shatter the romanticization of the struggling artist and let’s recognize that we do real work that should be recognized and compensated.

There is no straight path to success, but a distinguished and successful artist has integrity, persistence, patience, and discipline. A little marketing and business knowledge doesn’t hurt either.

Make what you love, own your rights, manage your skills, and share it with the world.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
