Today we’d like to introduce you to Tawana Thomas.
Tawana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, the city is known for its Fashion. I moved to South Florida as a child. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be in front of the camera, but I was not sure what I would be doing. At the age of 15, I started my career in modeling. At first, I did it for fun, I wasn’t as serious.
I was a young lady trying to figure out my identity and keeping up with my self-esteem. I took a hiatus to earn a Broadcast Journalism Degree. At this point, I realized that I had a passion for fashion and I need to pursue it on a runway.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but in every adventure, there come obstacles. I received many ”NO’s” in this industry and criticized about my physical appearance. But I am determined to be the best version of me and nothing will stop me.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
When it comes to fashion, I’m well rounded. I believe in representing oneself in the most positive and influential manner. I always encourage others to step out of there comfort zone when it comes to fashion. I preach that ”Fashion is a trend, but the style is an identity” express yourself thoroughly without words. When I’m on the runway, I walk with confidence so not only is the garment remembered but the person wearing the garment is remembered as one to showcase a masterpiece.

I want to thank all the photographers, designers and showcases that gave me an opportunity and continue to give me an opportunity. I am so grateful for the many words of encouragement from many individuals that crossed paths with me.
