Conversations with the Inspiring Laura Charles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Charles.

Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started blogging eight years ago when I was in college. Blogging or should I say writing was a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings to those around me, with hopes to inspire. I mainly wrote about personal experiences, this was before blogging was all about monetizing. By writing to my audience, I overcame some of the most difficult times of my life. My blog was my therapy and writing raw pieces resonated with so many people who were going through similar situations but couldn’t talk to anyone. It felt like a safe haven for me. I Took a break after graduation and traveled all over the world, and later on, got married. Six years later, I started Iamlauracharles.com where I mostly write about my travel experiences, share fashion tips, and now that I’m a momma, I may include. A few pieces about motherhood here and there.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life comes easy. In fact, I stopped blogging after I gave birth. This is my first official post postpartum actually. All this to say that there will always be ups and downs, you will encounter moments where you need a break or obstacles that may force you to take a step back. But while you are allowed to rest, you are absolutely not allowed to quit, take the time that you need, take a pause, take a break, but always get back up.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into iamlauracharles.com story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a woman of many hats! I have two degrees, one in Early Childhood Education, and one in special education. Upon graduation, I opted to spend a few years at my home town in Haiti working at a family owned private school, where I supervised and trained early childhood teachers. Those were some of my best years! I am also a blogger, which to me is also about educating people based on real-life experiences because so much of learning occurs outside of the classroom. In fact, we learn much more about life from experiences and that is what I share with my readers and followers.

When I’m not teaching or blogging, I am traveling! I’ve had the opportunity of visiting 26 countries, and I have enjoyed learning about different cultures and visiting some of the world’s most exotic places including The Maldives. I have recently launched Travel Planning services to people who are as passionate about discovering new places like I am. I am so excited about this new venture, and cannot wait to launch it on my blog. As of now, I do bookings through my email at Allthingslauracharles@gmail.com.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Opportunities are everywhere, we just have to be ready to seize them. Although we live in a society where women have to constantly fight to prove their worth and value, I believe that we have so many more opportunities in all fields than previous generations. Although we still have work to do to gain social equality in our society, I believe that we are equipped and ready for endless opportunities.
