Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Fritz.
Liz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I initially received my first professional camera as a birthday gift to start a new hobby. It started out with me asking friends to take photos around town for fun to strangers asking me to document milestone events. I never actually intended to go public with taking photos but I’m ecstatic I did because I find so much joy capturing people’s happiest moments. I especially take pride in making people feel beautiful when they doubt their photo taking skills. I’m currently investing more of my time towards travel photography as I start my new journey exploring Asia and South America.
Has it been a smooth road?
For someone who started out with absolutely no photography skills, it has been a long journey. It’s the people I have the chance to work with who taught me the different lessons I’ve learned. I believe the biggest challenge I have is getting someone who doesn’t take photos often to get comfortable in front of the lens. I take all of my photos in public areas so it can be intimidating for someone to be relaxed when there are strangers walking around or watching while we are shooting.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Liz Fritz Photography story. Tell us more about it.
I work full time with Delta Air Lines as a Senior Data Analyst. I went to graduate school for Information Systems with a concentration in Big Data. I’m heavily invested in coding and data analytics and thus turned it into my profession. I’m really big on girls getting more involved in IT and making more of a presence in the field. Luckily, for me, I get to incorporate creativity into my projects at work when I’m not working on my photography. I’m really proud of this accomplishment because not only is it not many females in my field, there’s definitely not many African African females and I want to set an example for the future analysts.
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
My favorite childhood memory are the days I use to spend in the garden with my grandparents. They would play music from the 50s/60s and dance the whole while we tended to an assortment of vegetables and flowers. Days like those used to make me feel like there were absolutely no problems in the world.
