Today we’d like to introduce you to Paperwater (Daygee Kwia & Eddy Samy), and Aaron Turner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Daygee, Eddy and I met three years ago when I was working for a Miami artist management company. I was handling their day to day and we launched this weekly hip hop party called Half/Full which got really popular. We were handling all the media in the house for the party and soon after people started reaching out for video and media inquiries.
A few months later, we stopped the party due to the workload and decided to focus on the media wing since the payout was high. Over time, we began to get frustrated with client work and over the last five months, we have begun to move more in the house with producing content for ourselves instead of selling to 3rd party companies.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth path. We have taken a ton of L’s but through those hardships, we have learned valuable lessons that enabled our team to get stronger and more skilled. This past year we restructured our scope of work, cut down on one side of our operation, and took on more opportunities into the music realm.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Half/Full Creative – what should we know?
Half/Full Creative is a boutique video production and event company with an emphasis on community and music. Under our music wing Wet Paper Records, we represent a small roster of artists that includes production duo Paperwater, dj/producer Coffintexts, and singer/songwriter and performance artist Morgan Bryson. The mgmt and label is not the core of our business, but certainly is part of it.
We are mainly known for an event and video production, however, each artist has their respective following that reaches outside of South Florida. For example, Paperwater’s core following and listenership are in Europe while Coffintexts is mainly out of South America.
Our quality and creative component set us apart from others. We edit differently than most people and make something boring look cool in a unique way.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
We are looking forward to focusing our efforts on releasing music and amping up our label and catalog. Developing our artists and releasing tracks/videos that have been in production for a long time coming. There is no ceiling on what we aim to do its really about being an integral part of the Miami music culture extending beyond into the world. Highlighting the renaissance emerging here now among the artists and being a part of that history is really important to us.
