Meet Juan Youssef of Minds Cowork in Wynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Youssef.

Juan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Venezuela native, initially received my DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) in 2007 (Caracas, Venezuela) and later went on to earn my Executive MBA from the University of Miami in 2017. I settled in Miami five years ago where I founded my own dental practice called Loop Dental in Doral where a new stress-free dental experience inspired by music was created. Looking to expand my business portfolio, I started with the idea of starting an innovative coworking space where the main goal is to foster a creative community with a built-in business incubator where ideas, projects, networks, fun, and success come together in the same place. Not to mention, the rescue of a creative community that started Wynwood a couple of years ago but today the went away due to the increase on lease prices and conditions – that’s how I came with MINDS Co/Work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha, I don’t think any new business has a smooth road, and if it has it, then it’s not going to last long.

As an immigrant, doing business in a different country could be very challenging. You can find a lack of support from every aspect (from funding to marketing) and even sometimes you could lose a big part of the investment until there’s a big chance for failure.

The first challenge was setting the mindset: shifting from dentistry to a coworking business as you can imagine is very different in some aspects so getting this was very special. Construction permits was also a new thing for me.

But the most difficult obstacle was starting to build a community before we open the space.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Minds Cowork – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
MINDS Co/Work is an open-format shared workspace whose primary vision is to cultivate and nurture an innovative community where local artists and creative entrepreneurs can expand and develop their ideas into successful businesses. What really sets MINDS apart from other shared workspaces is their true passion for people, as it was specifically designed to provide each member with valuable resources, relationships and professional guidance in the direction they need to build upon their talents.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
From Miami, I like the weather, the beach, and the multicultural environment.

What I like least, is the lack of public transportation and long distances from one place to the other, also the limited “walkable” neighborhoods. Employment opportunities could be sometimes very small as well.
