Meet Jose Perdomo III of Boogietek Weddings in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Perdomo III.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My photography passion was inherited from my grandfather Manuel Rodriguez who in the 1940’s pioneered the photography business in our hometown Moca in the Dominican Republic. Since my pre-teen age, I used to carry a compact film camera to take pictures in family trips and school events, developed with money earned working with my dad in the local movie theaters by that time. Meaning that I grew up surrounded by photos and movies.

In 1998 founded “Boogietek Graphic Workshop” dedicated to Graphic Design and Commercial Photography for the advertising industry, acquiring big experience from hundreds of client-projects under my direction. It was on 2008 where a friend called asking me to do her wedding photos, which surprised me because by that time I had never shot a single wedding picture in my life; after a few conversations, I was convinced and compromised to do her wedding.

It was there where the magic began, I was touched by the emotions, the sensitiveness, the fun, the attires, the love, the tears, the joy.

Suddenly, my perceptual world changed significantly… For greatness!

By the end of 2010, we moved to South Florida to start our new life and continue to grow in the wedding photography business as we are until today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
These seven years in South Florida soil has been challenging for our wedding business, it is a very competitive market where you can find thousands of photographers in all price range. Being Florida the #1 state for Destination Weddings makes it very attractive for beginners who usually offer very cheap prices so they can gain experience to fill their portfolio.

Boogietek Weddings – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business has become strictly to weddings. We do photography and videography. When someone finds about Boogietek, it will immediately learn that we only do weddings.

Boogietek has been highlighted for our ‘Cinematic Style’ and ‘Candid Capture’ which is our preferred way to work, being unobstructed and discretely to avoid distraction to the natural pose or special moment we are capturing in the moment.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every wedding has its enchantment, everybody is in a fascinating mood during a wedding day. My proudest moment of my career has been directing a crew of eight between photographers, videographers and assistants in 700 guests wedding in the Dominican Republic, that was an incredible experience which crafted maturity and a big sense of capacity building my career.
