Today we’d like to introduce you to Baby Ling.
Baby, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Cuban-born, Miami raised artist who loves to create. I came to the U.S. when I was six years old and still have my entire family in Cuba, besides my mother, father, and brother. My passion for music has always been immense from a very young age. I would memorize rap songs, I would constantly be on LimeWire downloading a bunch of songs to my iPod, literally diving into the platforms finding new types of music. I would like to say I’m musically ambiguous because I literally listen to anything that makes me feel good. I love when you could feel the music flowing through your body. I also had a huge passion for writing, poetry specifically.
Describing my emotions and my experiences with words were so easy for me – definitely much easier than expressing myself speaking. But I used this to help me get better. I made my first song at 17 for fun with my friend Davonte, then we made another one for fun and some people actually liked it. I didn’t start taking music seriously until early 2016 when Mykey moved down from Jersey, and ever since then, I haven’t stopped. I released my first EP “Sazon 724” last summer and I’m currently working on another project which will be released Summer 2019. My single “Icy” is doing really well so far and I’m planning on shooting a music video for it very soon.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a road of ups and downs, I didn’t really plan to get into rap and to take it serious, the opportunity pretty much came to me while having fun and I said to myself “wait a minute, I could do this, I should do this”. Finding my sound and developing as an artist was a journey that I’m still going through. I definitely think I have grown a lot of confidence from when I first started but I’m all about improvement and having the best student mentality so I never become stagnant and my growth and development never stops.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Baby Ling – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I would say I’m a rapper but I’m not – I am an artist, the music I make is very personal to me, with my own style, my own rhymes, my own flows. I make music based on my experiences and whatever I am going through at that exact moment. I use music as an outlet to tell my story, to vent, to uplift people and to just have fun! I take it very serious but I always make sure I’m having fun with it – otherwise, it doesn’t stimulate me. I love to create, not only music, but I love to write, I model, I liked to be involved in any type of creative project that makes me think and gets me out of my comfort zone. You will never hear me say no when it comes to creating, it’s something I’m always down for. I’m most proud of being myself and not letting anyone change my style or who I am. I make music for myself and not for anyone else and I’ve gained a lot of loyal support for that exact reason. I’m not doing this to be famous or to be known – if it happens then, of course, I’ll be happy – but that’s not my way.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career is releasing my first EP “Sazon 724”. I worked extremely hard on it, it was tough because I had never worked on a project before and I wanted it to be perfect. I was in the studio every single week making sure it sounded exactly how I wanted to, mixing it a few times with Mykey until I felt it was up to my expectations. Once I released it, I got so much positive feedback and support. It just pushed me to want to continue and not give up.
