Today we’d like to introduce you to LaDon Quivette.
Thanks for sharing your story with us LaDon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My initial interest in barbering happened after I asked a shop owner if I could come in and do scalp and hand massages for the waiting customers. He obliged and I soon realized that my skill set was perfect for the industry so I went back and asked “if I go to school and get my license, will you give me a chair”? He chuckled and said “Sure”. I told no one that I had enrolled and even kept my books covered. After I completed the program and had my physical license in hand, I went to the owner and stated “I came, I saw, I conquered. Where’s my chair?”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road traveled in this male dominated industry hasn’t always been smooth but it has definitely been worth it. The social stigma of a woman providing adequate services to a man when it pertains to grooming is astounding. I’ve had to endure being the receptionist, the cleaning lady, and dealing with snide remarks from customers and other barbers.
