Art & Life with Glayson Leroy

Today we introduce Glayson from G Collective and the Wade Tribute mural by Hiero.

For Art Basel 2018 we at Galera Collective wanted to show our appreciation for Dwyane Wade for everything he has done for Miami and South Florida as a whole; not only as an athlete but also as a relentless philanthropist.

Glayson LeRoy, owner and operator of Galera Collective or G Collective from Delray Beach is a graphic designer who has always had a love for street art, graffiti, and large scale murals. Glayson has been a Heat fan for many years and an even bigger D Wade fan since he brought the Miami Heat their first title in 2006 and managed to get Miami Lebron James and Chris Bosh to join him in Miami, which in Glayson’s words were the best four years of sports in South Florida.

The artist: Hiero has been dabbling in the arts for as long as he can remember. He started with graffiti in his teen years and ever since it’s been about spray paint. Hiero who is usually skeptical about painting celebrities admitted it’s hard not to be a fan of D Wade. “He’s a model human being, and with qualities, everyone should aspire to,” said Hiero.

This project took about three weeks and longer than expected due to the madness of Art Basel.

Be on the look for a lot more from G Collective in 2019. From upcoming shows to multiple murals in Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Miami and more.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As mentioned before I am a graphic designer, but since opening G Collective I have also become an art and mural coordinator. Curating Murals From Wynwood to West Palm Beach.

Just before Art Basel 2018, I curated a nine mural project called FOCUS for the city of Lake Worth. It was a good 3-month process that included 19 artists with 17 of them being from South Florida.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
My best advice is to keep pushing and never settle. Also, do work that is outside your style if you can. That will help keep the finances in order.
