Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Margherite Fuster.
Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was given a film camera at a very young age, and fell in love with the fact that it was possible to capture a slice of life with something that fit in the palm of my hands.
Throughout high school, photography was simply a hobby to me and a title given in the yearbook club.
As college rolled around, I used photography as my second job to help pay for schooling. I had to opportunity to be a second shooter for Aylin Marcelo (from Aylin Marcelo Photography), and she taught me the ropes and threw me out to the wolves. Time went by and I graduated with a degree in Biological sciences, ready to begin Physician’s Assistant school. But one morning (yes, this really did happen!), I woke up and said I had to finally follow my dreams – a scientist gone an artistic rebel! I always knew there was a reason I would be editing photos instead of studying for my or go exam the next day. So it was all or nothing in my eyes, and decided to make my “hobby” into a full-blown business.
There is not one day I regret this decision because being an “artepreneur” has taught me more about life, people, and professionalism I don’t think I would’ve learned anywhere else. I have had multiple opportunities to immerse my talent in different cultures, such as Israel, Eleuthera, New York City, and other places.
The gift of giving a person a fragment of time is priceless – this is what drives me to do what I do every day. I build myself up when I am surrounded by the multiple creative individuals that are found in Miami and other places I have visited. I have been an official business for a year now and am truly excited for what is to come.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a small business is one word – a rollercoaster. You have you peaks and your dips, but these are the things that have allowed me to grow as an individual and business woman. Creative blocks, difficult clients, and technological malfunctions are a handful of the speed bumps I have encountered, some of them making me want to rethink things. But I have learned that you must always take the good from the bad, and see the struggles as a lesson. As the phrase says it, smooth seas never made skilled sailor!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Danielle Margherite Photography can be seen as an artistic chameleon – give me a scenario or concept, and I will make sure to execute it into your exact vision (and even more!). I am the owner and founder of this business, and currently a one man show. My work does have an emphasis on naturally lit portraits, since I find it so fascinating as how the sun can give us different types of light through the day and seasons. I am most proud of the growth of my business over this year. My perseverance and positive outlook has allowed my business to grow twice as much in the span of only a year. I am self-taught in all aspects including photography, billing, and clientele courtesy. I believe my humble nature, professionalism at such a young age, and attention to detail sets me apart from the rest of the Miami photographer crew.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Miami is a good place to start out due to abundance of supplies and tools that are available. Modeling agencies, interesting and monumental backdrops, and many connections are available here in Miami. But I believe that as soon as you want to take your business extremely serious, a move is a must. The number of photographers here in Miami is very saturated, along with other melting pot cities. Personally, I am scoping out other cities in the USA to continue to grow.
