Conversations with the Inspiring Megan Probst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Probst.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story began in the vibrant Island of Jamaica from very diverse parents. My father discovered the Island in the 70s as a hippy ( the last child of ten) and fell in love with the Island and my mother. My father became an influential real estate developer and hospitality specialist alongside my mother. At four, I moved back to Fort Lauderdale where I later attended American Heritage School and graduated from the University of Central Florida. I always envisioned a career in Law however upon graduating with a Communications and Legal Studies degree, I had a moment of uncertainty that led me to New York City. I am so thankful as I connected with a Fashion Designer and worked as his Marketing Director for two years. The risk was the greatest reward.

After, the opportunity concluded I decided to move back to South Florida and coincidentally interacted with a  Real estate broker who was assisting my sister with a purchase of her condo. That one interaction sparked my interest in real estate (not surprising as I grew up around my father and his practice). After receiving my license, I developed practical knowledge through apprenticeship and further honed my skill and global perspective through professional roles as an associate broker for a luxury real estate brokerage and as vice president of sales & marketing for a dynamic South Florida real estate development firm. Presently, I found my passion and love at Compass Real Estate a dynamic, forward-thinking, luxury brokerage firm with a vast network of talented agents and entrepreneurs. Most recently, as a result of the incredible support and inspiration, I have been able to launch my interview series called Currently.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been all a smooth ride and looking back, I wouldn’t have it any other way. During my moments of difficulty and challenge, I learned my greatest lessons. Advice to other women would be to nurture and focus on growing your network- the assistance and support I received enhanced and elevated my career. Continually focus on expanding your craft thru education, knowledge: read, read, read. There is so much information at your disposal. Do not be afraid to ask for help and to actively seek for mentors in your life. Analyze and interact with top producers and get involved in professional organizations that will provide an in depth perspective of your market. Remember, it’s never too late to crush that goal focus on smaller steps that lead to the finish line. Reflect on where you started and where you are now, it truly will put things into perspective. Mindset is everything, with a world full of overstimulation its important to remain grounded and to focus on competing/ comparing yourself to no other than, YOU.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Absolutely,  women should understand we can be each other’s support system versus competitors, and by doing so many more opportunities would open up to them. I have a close-knit support system of women who I continually lean on for support, advice, and inspiration.
