Today we’d like to introduce you to Guy Tieman.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I had been a cold work glass artist in the ’80s and ’90s but stepped completely away from Art in the late ’90s as I changed career paths and raised two boys. In 2014 I began to immerse myself in the Arts and begin rediscovering my love of expression through a variety of media. I have chosen to be more fluid and expressive with a nod to childlike abandonment.
Please tell us about your art.
As I began to create art again in the last few years one of my major goals was to make work that was not extremely time-consuming or laborious and allow myself to be more spontaneous and expressive in a somewhat childlike fashion. Tinkertoys, Crayons, Colorforms, and Scribbles are words or things that I feel are good descriptives of my work. I primarily have two distinct bodies of work; a low relief colorful series “Of Tinkertoys and Crayons” and loose graphite and watercolor series which I sometimes refer to as “Scribbles and Bits.”
I as an Artist am only one half of the equation; you as the viewer are the other half. As we are all products of our experiences, I hope that you enjoy experiencing the interpretation process as I enjoy experiencing the creative process.
Look, enjoy and see what you (want to) see. What I see, what you see and what they might see runs the variance.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I personally enjoy the solitude of being an Artist; those quiet times as your mind converses and debates with itself are often the most frustrating, challenging and rewarding but if you find the need to converse with other creative people then your Local Art Leagues, social media and art show openings are great ways to meet fellow Artists.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I show my artwork at various locals in Florida as well as through my website and via my Facebook and Instagram accounts.
