Today we’d like to introduce you to Latisha Curry.
Latisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At age seven, I knew that acting was the one thing I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I remember I would do impersonations for my grandmother every day after school up until the time she moved. I genuinely love making people laugh. The feeling I get after I put a smile on someone’s face is indescribable. Once I made that apparent to my parents, I began taking acting & dance classes when I was 8, but unfortunately, I didn’t continue.
Although, I knew it was something I really wanted to do & enjoyed doing, I lacked the drive, but by age 14 that all changed. I joined drama club & participated in countless school plays, once I graduated high school, I began doing extra work on television & movie sets. During pursuing my acting career, I competed in a beauty pageant & discovered a new love, which was modeling. Acting will always remain my top priority & first love, but now my plans have changed. I’m a firm believer that with hard work & determination I can achieve success.
This is my journey to becoming an actress & model in the entertainment industry, I plan on making all my supporters proud, but most importantly I plan on making myself proud. As of today, I can say that I’m a 2x published model, also have been featured in two magazines, I’ve walked in numerous fashion shows such as the annual Dama fashion show, Miami swim week, Miami fashion week, as well as have been on set of Nickelodeon’s “I am Frankie”, ‘Ballers’ season to starring Dwayne Johnson, ‘Baywatch’ starring Dwayne Johnson and Zach Efron, “Miami love affair”. Numerous music videos such as, ‘Loco Enamorado’ with Farruko, Abraham Mateo, & Christian Daniel, ‘One More Time’ by Craig David. I have a few more projects coming up soon for the remainder of this year and next and I’m really excited for them and for everyone to see it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road I have faced many are positions, I have been turned away, ignored, and underestimated because of my size. It would get to me emotionally to the point where I would want to quit altogether. I had a fashion show earlier this year and I fell on stage, it was the first time I had ever fell on stage, and although I got up it continued and held it altogether, once I got back stage I was absolutely broken inside. It was that moment where I actually wanted to quit and thought that I was going to follow through but had I listened to that doubtful voice it would have been the first time I fell, and the last time I walked. I couldn’t quit before I prove myself to everyone including me. Advice for other women that want to pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry or just in general is to have assurance in yourself first and make sure that more than anything you do things your way.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into Latisha Curry story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m all over the place really, I dabble in a lot of things for example creative directing and poetry writing. Whenever I’m onset or have a shoo, I love to create art in whatever it is I’m doing. For example, if I’m on said I give it 100% always it’s crucial for me that the audience watching feels something. If I’m at a shoot I don’t want to just take cute pictures I want to create something vastly different then what is typically seen.
Luckily for me, I have photographers as friends and much like me there eager to create different things and bring their ideas and my ideas to life. Much like me they want to be different and they’re not afraid to be different and more than anything they love taking risks. I feel with sets me apart from everyone else is just the fact that I’m an old soul, I don’t really fit in with this error I find myself more and the different areas that have passed just because each one of them brought something so creatively different and innovating and that’s what I’m mainly about.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I do to a certain extent there’s a lot more hardships then opportunities for women but with everything that we have today and from the long way we came, from not having any rights at all to having literally the choice as to what we want to do. As far are feelings for opportunities that women are particularly well position for, I don’t have any because with hard work and determination anything is possible that’s what I believe then and that’s what I see even though it may be harder for women to get what they want even with hard work and determination nothing is ever in possible so the opportunities as well as the challenges are infinite.
